June 14th-15th I attended the annual Section-7 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ. I watched as many Arizona teams as I could over the two days, as there were around 40 teams who represented the prestigious event.

Here were some of the top senior guards I watched

[player_tooltip player_id='590992' first='Destiny' last='Lunan'] Millennium

A shifty talented lefty scoring PG who is a good on-ball defender. She can score from all levels with post ups and will rise up or fall away from her defender, crossover into a pull-up, hesitates well ot the basket and has the ability to split defenders and then make a play or score. She finds teammates and is one of top guards in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='558897' first='Alexa' last='Simpson'] Saguaro

A long and lean scoring guard can score it with shot fakes into a runner, catch and shoot from the three and gets downhill with either hand and will find open teammates. She is smart off the pick and roll game and moves without the ball for a bucket. She is long in the passing lanes to collect steals and race down the other end for a layup with her obvious speed.

[player_tooltip player_id='558898' first='Kahlia' last='Gonzales'] Mesquite

A pure point guard will score with quick blow by's with her left or right hand. She will hit the three off the catch and and has next level court vision. She often will drive and kick it and thread the needle plus has quick hands on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='588763' first='Dylan' last='Swindle'] Desert Vista

A top of the food chain shooter. She will rattle in triples off the catch, side step into a jumper or step back. She has a tight handle in close spaces to not get the ball stolen and keeps her head up looking to make a play in transition. She will have many big games this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='614445' first='Jaziah' last='Billey'] Dobson

A scoring point guard gets the game. She scores with off the dribble jumpers, pull-ups from mid-range and can shoot the three. Her left hand is very good and plays off the pick and roll game smartly and she will then score or find a teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id='589986' first='Isabella' last='Ivy'] Perry

A pure point guard with toughness. She can hesitate and get downhill with either hand and score it. She will take care of the ball and you rarely see her turn it over. She loves touching the paint and getting to the line. She actually made clutch free throws down the stretch to seal a victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='558895' first='Heather' last='Stedman'] Pinnacle

A bigger guard who is a catch three point shooter with a quick release. She has one of the cleaner strokes in the state from her class. She squares up quickly and gets it off her hands. She is a top transition finisher and she loves her mid-range pull-ups.

[player_tooltip player_id='443661' first='Olivia' last='Owens'] Phoenix Country Day

One of the top defenders in the class has big time lateral quickness and speed. She made some of the best passes on the day with up the court ropes, drive and kicks and perfect passes off the pick and roll game. She can hit the deep three, pull-up from mid-range and had one nasty spin move into a pull-up that was a thing of beauty. She did unfortunately injure herself and we wish her a speedy recovery.

[player_tooltip player_id='655631' first='Carmella' last='Gallardo'] Seton Catholic

A scoring guard who is handling the lead guard role with the loss of their point guard via transfer. She moves the ball and always stays in motion. She can get to the basket and score with layups, runners, floaters and deep jumpers.

[player_tooltip player_id='339058' first='Lucy' last='Sanford'] Xavier (Pictured)

A straight gunner from the perimeter. She will rattle in catch and shoot threes off the catch. She has a tight handle and plays the game with a high IQ and big feel. She is a good passer and if you leave her open she will knock it down.

[player_tooltip player_id='371488' first='Sidney' last='Anderson'] Salpointe Catholic

A natural catch three point shooter was a little off in the main game I observed from deep but I watched other games and she didn't disappoint. She showed other sides of her game with sharp ball fakes and rose up. She can handle it and change speeds to get to the basket with either hand. She is very competitive on defense to rebound, collect steals and occasionally block shots. She keeps her opponent in front of her and will have a huge senior season.
