is a big part of what Ankeny High School is trying to accomplish this Winter. Kieve, the 5’8 SG, moves pretty effortlessly with and without the ball. She is someone that has a better than average handle and the foundation for a convertible shooting stroke from behind the three point line. She primarily likes to work off of the ball on offense but she can go to work if the shot clock happens to be winding down or something like that. If Kiene produces as steady rates this Winter, Ankeny is going to be a tough contest. They have elite guard play and promising young talent so they just need to put it all together as the weeks go on.

of Ankney High School is going to be much more of an “X factor” for her group than most people think going into this season. Kiene is a skilled SG with a smooth game-play style. When she is confident in her ability and working off of the ball is when she is at her best. She can do well as a shooter off the catch from the Wing but she stands out the most when she can get to the basket or into the middle of the lane off of the dribble. There is going to be so much attention brought to Ankeny’s star player,

each night, that whenever others can step up to help carry the load, it will be clutch in a positive way. So I’m expecting players like Kiene to step up in some of their bigger contests this Winter, when it really matters the most.

is going to do all that she can to help her Ankeny team to a State appearance before she graduates but if that is truly going to happen, she is going to need some help. Someone who should be her #2, who demonstrated some skill on both sides of the floor today was

. Kiene was assisting others in transition, scoring herself down the floor at a steady pace, and making some smart plays when the opportunities presented themselves. She demonstrated a coordinated game style, that was better than most out on the floor around her. All in all, good showing from Ankeny today in Iowa City.

was the x-factor for Ankeny on Tuesday. The 5’8″ combo guard did a bit of everything for the Hawks, including bringing the ball up against pressure, hitting tough shots, and playing full-court defense (and finishing with a team high 17 points). Kiene impressed me from the start with her solid handle, and continued to impress as she hit a tough step-back off a punch dribble and followed it up with a contested jumper from a skip pass. Kiene is solid defensively too – she’s a pesky on-ball defender and knows when to help off of her player. Based on her performances so far, I predict a breakout season this year for

takes the floor, she is due to hit a handful of three pointers along with registering a few steals at the same time. Kiene is a 5’8 Shooting Guard, who understands what she is best at when she is out there on the floor. She is always looking for her spots around the three point line, while displaying active hands on both sides of the ball. On this team and within this program, I’m expecting more of the same from Kiene these next few months. She is someone that can be trusted to make big shots and that should be something that comes about this AAU season. I’ll be interested how that translates to the high school court this Winter but we are still far from that. Right now she is going to worry about what is in front of her and control what she can control.
