Kyle Schaapveld has recently committed to compete with Central Dutch College out of Iowa follow this Winter to continue on with her basketball aspirations. Schaapveld is a respectable player with some promise to her game. She is a SG that isn’t crazy with flash but she knows what she does best, which is getting to two feet and playing fundamental basketball. Within Central’s system she should be able to learn over the years, eventually seeing the floor later in her career for the Dutch if she works hard enough. As for this season, Schaapveld is going to do whatever she can to help her Ankeny Squad. When she is leaving it all out there is when she is playing her best so hopefully we see more of that as we move into the Post season in a few months.

Ankeny will be a program throughout Iowa this Winter to keep an eye on. Someone that should be a constant in this group’s production category over the next eight months is Kyla Schaapveld Kyla Schaapveld 5'8" | /SG Ankeny | 2026 State IA . Schaapveld recently grabbed a D3 offer from Coe out of Cedar Rapids. Coe is one of the more impressive D3’s within their conference as of late. They are winning a lot of games and building quite the culture so to receive an offer from here is noteworthy. In Schaapveld’s game she can score at a solid rate off the catch of dribble by getting all the way to the bucket, she is always willing to hit other teammates around her that around open, and she also holds her own in the categories of rebounding and defending. All in all, I’m excited to see what she can put together.

Kyla Schaapveld Kyla Schaapveld 5'8" | /SG Ankeny | 2026 State IA is a solid presence for the Ankeny Hawks. She is consistent in all areas defensively – she’s more than capable guarding ball handlers, jumps to the right places in help defense, and is disciplined while contesting shooters. She doesn’t make many mistakes out there and you can count on her to keep the ball moving and make the right play offensively. When her name is called, Schaapveld can step up – she was 2/3 from the floor with a big three pointer in the second half. Schaapveld helps her team go and is a much-needed piece for the Hawks this season.

Ankeny High School is going to return this Winter with some vengeance on their mind, along with most of their productive prospects from last Varsity season. One of those prospect being 2026 – SG, Kyla Schaapveld Kyla Schaapveld 5'8" | /SG Ankeny | 2026 State IA . Schaapveld demonstrated over this last week that she is a three point threat, a coordinated player, and someone that still has room to grow her overall game. Last Winter for Ankeny, Schaapveld saw the floor in moderation, mainly being a three point threat, taking 44 of her 53 FG attempts from beyond the three point line throughout the year. I could see that being her role once again this Winter with the playmakers they have returning but I think she can also be more than just a catch-and-shoot prospect. If she does anything like she showed during our Showcase, she is going to find herself on the hardwood in some big moments these next six months. She does a lot of positive things and she isn’t going to hurt you too much when things do break down from a coaching perspective. Those two factors can keep an individual on the floor most of the season so it wouldn’t shock me if that’s the case this Winter but we will just have to wait and see.
