Every program can use a post player with a smooth jumper, and Ava fits that right away. She is mobile, active in the paint, and impacts the game on both ends of the floor. My favorite thing about her game is how she handles switches. If she gets matched up with a guard, she stays composed, tracks the drive without fouling, and never looks like she needs help. She has a nice touch around the rim, and if she catches it higher than the rim, she can put it on the floor as well. Major stock riser for sure.

Johnson has quietly put together one of the best seasons of her high school career. A post prospect who can space the court, has solid footwork around the block, a smooth midrange shot, and a soft touch at the rim. On the glass, she has the motor and aggressiveness, and shows some mobility in the open floor. As her game continues to develop, she’ll for sure draw more attention from college programs. The potential is stronger than many realize, and there is a real possibility of a long term upside.

Johnson has all the physical tools to be a dominant force, and over the past couple of months, she’s been doing that. What sets her apart from some of the other posts in this class is her ability to stretch the floor and be a threat, not just stretch the floor. Another thing is her ability to rebiundm and not bobble the ball, she gets hand on the ball and she secures it. Ava is a player to watch over the next couple of years.

All the physical tools are there with Johnson, and she has shown how impactful she can be on both ends of the floor. Whether it is controlling the boards or filling up the scoring column, she has the ability to take over a game. While the competition she faces is not the toughest, it would not be surprising to see her bring the same aggression this summer. Consistent tough matchups are what she needs to truly stand out as one of the premier prospects in her class.

Post players with smooth and fluid forms will always find themselves in the conversation as a piece to build around, and Johnson has that. She has the height and size to develop into a dominant 4/5. There’s no doubt she could be one of the best prospects in this class when senior year rolls around. Keep an eye on her growth as a prospect.
