Thurmond brings toughness to the Puma circuit this summer. She uses her deceptive quickness to jump out in the passing lanes and speed off for breakaway layups. She is also hard to contain coming downhill from the top of the key. Relentless motor!

Thurmond is another combo guard that was a punch for state semi-finalist Shadow Creek. Prior to the season, I mentioned she is under the radar, but I think Thurmond woke audiences up this season. She is a glue player that earns minutes by playing lockdown defense and keeps her head on a swivel to get her teammates involved.

Thurmond has made a few of my Tip Sheets and was recently added to the PGH Rankings last quarter, see evaluations here, and to be honest with you, after seeing her pick pockets and go the length of the floor to score, as well as finishing with either hand around the basket, she’s positioning herself for a breakout club season. Her first step was effective in the set, so was her crossover in transition, and the mid to long-range jumper was a nice added touch

Thurmond has so much upside that it’s no telling how high she will climb, and she’s shown that so many times, see evaluations here. The thing that impresses me the most is that she plays within herself and does so many things that don’t necessarily show up on a stat sheet. Don’t get it twisted, her defensive pressure can change the momentum, and her shooting, both from outside and off the dribble, are big pluses

Thurmond is a player that will make coaches keep her on the floor because of her fierce defensive play. She combines speed and aggressiveness to make ball handlers think twice. On the other end, she is shifty and makes her defender work. She gets her teammates involved and doesn’t force her own shot.

Thurmond falls into that #sizedontmatter group, yet the HAVOC she created on the defensive end at the PGH Sophomore ID Showcase blew me away see evaluation here. Speaking of blowing me, she also blew by defenders and stayed under control to score or dish in transition

Thurmond punched her ticket in several areas off the top as I only saw a blur of her blowing by defenders from afar during the 3 on 3, yeah, I can cover multiple courts because I’m that good, yet she showed me she was better than I had heard about. She’s a long and athletic guard, which is ALSO THE BASE, yet her change of direction, as well as being “shifty with the ball” kept the defender off balance for her to score off the dribble. Her body control after contact looked good, so did her court vision and jumper, step back included
