This weekend we saw that smooth shooting stroke out of Cora Sauer that we are always used to seeing on the high school hardwood during the Winter season. Not only was she hitting shots from deep at a steady clip, she also got to the hoop off her cutting ability a few times, and she showed great discipline as to when she should bring the ball back to the outside compared to attack the defense in transition. Defensively, she wasn’t someone that anyone could pick on and that’s really whats most important on that side of the ball in the grand scheme of things. I really enjoy watching this Lady Martin Bros. Select 17U team this Spring. They have some go-getter and they are only going to get better with experience.

is made out of this AAU season when she is on the road with the Lady Martin Bros Select program. Sauer, a 5’8 SG, has an overall game that is noteworthy. Offensively, her shooting stroke from deep is clean and fundamental. She can finish at the hoop on either side with either hand in a number of different ways and she can move off of the ball as a cutter for simple looks off of her movement. Defensively, this is someone that stands out. She gets her hands on several tip/deflections throughout the duration of a ball-game and that plays into her team’s group defense as a whole. If I’m a recruiter at the college level around the Midwest, this is someone that I would take a look at. She brings a lot of positives to the court and she is only going to get better with time/experience.

is one of the newest members to the 1,000 point club at the Varsity level as she completed that feat earlier this week. Sauer, a 5’8 SG, is usually the type that you would considered a catch and shoot prospect overall but she has demonstrated this season that she can get to the hoop off the dribble and finish through contact. When looking at the state list for some of the top free throw shooters, Sauer finds herself within the Top 40, no matter the age or Class level. There is a lot to like about Sauer and her game. She doesn’t seem to settle but she can make it rain from the outside if need be. That’s an ability a lot of college coaches would love to have on their bench one day.

was Forest City’s main focus the entire game last night, and for good reason. The combo guard has endless range and made the defense pay when they didn’t track her down behind the arc. Sauer also has quick first step with the jab — I liked her ability to get past defenders going baseline with either hand, and her quick, controlled crossover. Sauer also has a little post game in her bag and will look to seal players her size with a drop step. On the defensive end Sauer was everywhere — tipped passes, picking pockets, you name it. She’s also shooting 88% from the line this season and looked more than comfortable nailing all of her free throws. In short, Sauer fought through face guards and hard hedges all night and still found a way to step up and lead the Lake Mills comeback, though their charge came up just short.

is not doing anything crazy to find success to begin her Junior season. Offensively, Sauer is making open shots off of screening action, she is taking it to the rack off the dribble with simple picks up once she is deep within the defense for easy finishes, and she is hitting others that are open around her at a steady rate. Defensively, she is staying annoying and glued to her matchup whenever instructed. Overall there is a lot to like about Sauer. She is definitely a college level player someday in the near future.

of Lake Mills High School has started this season off with a bang during Week 1 of regular season action. Sauer, a knockdown SG, recorded several positive statistical stats this past week in her first few games on Varsity action for the Winter. She lit up the scoring books with several points off of all three offensive levels, she recorded several steals/tips/deflections defensively, and she communicated well with the others around her to lead by example to push her team to victory. Sauer should be able to build on this momentum moving into the thick of the season. If they play their cards right as a team, they should have some convincing victories this Winter.

touches the ball. She is fairly skilled in other aspects of the game as well but her most lethal weapon in her arsenal is her jumper. Sauer is one that can catch on fire if she see’s just one shot attempt go in to start a contest. It doesn’t matter if she is contested, wide open, in the half court, or in transition, if you give her space and time – the attempt will aways looks like its going in. At the next level this is someone that could produce, she just needs to find the fit in the right system.

is a natural Shooting Guard that has the ability to make the ball go into the basket a lot from behind the three point line. Sauer has put up big numbers in the shooting and scoring department over her two years at the Varsity level and she is looking to build on that this AAU season on the road with her Lady Marin Bros Select UAA team. Sauer is a player that likes to play at the Wing position or off the ball for the most part but she can also dribble it under some pressure if need be. On defense she does a great job of pushing her opponent to their bad hand, making them uncomfortable enough to turn the ball over at times. All in all, there is a lot to like here so far. She is going to have to get stronger over time but there is a base to build on here moving into the Spring.

of Lake Mills High School set the season record for three pointers made. Sauer may be young in her high school career but she is really coming into her own in front of our eyes this Winter. She is being a constant for her varsity program in more ways than just scoring. She is defending like her life depends on it at times, she is finding others off of her creation, and she is being a great teammate to those around her. She just also happens to be hitting a ton of three pointers, whenever the opportunities present themselves as well. That is something you can’t be mad at if you are the coaching staff or a fan of Lake Mills.

of Lake Mills high School. This ability was on full display on Thursday evening when she erupted for 26 points on 8/18 shooting, including going 7/12 from behind the three point line. With this only being a prospect out of the Sophomore class, you can imagine the promise that a lot of recruiters could see with Sauer down the line. Quick trigger from deep, accurate, she is consistently growing her play-style, and she comes off as a player that brings great culture along with her into whatever she is doing. This is one of the first times we have heard about Sauer this Winter but at this pace, it won’t be the last.
