About Eve
Expert Analysis
Robert Kelly | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Long generally endured being on the receiving end of physical play from the group of Wichita East bigs she faced inside. And while she went off for 30 points and 8 boards (4 offensive) on better than 50 percent shooting and 7/9 from the line it was her ability to consistently sprint down the floor for transition buckets and knocking down perimeter shots that were great to see.

Battling illness and a terrific Hutchinson doubling game plan Long wrapped up a 14 point win with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals. Her results were a big key to victory but how well she adjusted to double-teams and lane clogging was important. She repeatedly found the right kick-out pass, used her hops to generate second-chance points and control the glass. The Falcons out-rebounded the Salthawks 47-24. Disrupting Salthawk plans was her moving out of the center spot to play on the perimeter more. That gave her perimeter looks and enabled the team to open up more space in the lane.

Eve is currently our top-ranked player in the state of Kansas for the Class of 2027, and she put her complete game on display this evening. She consistently ran the floor in transition, finishing uncontested layups, and was dominant on the glass—grabbing offensive rebound after offensive rebound and converting multiple putbacks.
The fourth quarter belonged to Long, as she went on a mini run of her own by sprinting the floor and getting deep post touches that led to easy layups.

Long will be a household name sooner than later so it’s exciting to watch her live. The 3SSB circuit provides a chance to see Long go against defenders her size to really provide a glimpse of what she will look like on the next level. And even against opponents her size, she separates herself in transition, moving like a guard and consistently beating players down the court. In the half court, she stays patient on the perimeter, using a simple but effective drop step to shake defenders and finish at the rim with her length. Her blend of size, control, and agility makes her a mismatch nightmare.

The full range of Long’s game was on display as she nearly carried her team to a 6A state tournament quarterfinal win. Scored at all three levels, went end-to-end off rebounds, commanded the paint on both ends of the floor and found teammates with quick and catchable passes. Check out more in this article:

Long is smart, athletic player with a diverse game. Her presence as a perimeter threat makes her strong handles that much more effective. A terrific shot blocker inside and on the perimeter. A walking three point play due to her ability to knock down free throws. Terrific hops but has a tendency to get airborne biting on head fakes.
