Jelayna’s explosiveness off the floor was very apparent, very quickly as
HER Elite
17U EYCL played their first game at the event. She is a tall player with a long wingspan that definitely passes the eye test and to see her get up in the air had my interest early on. She did a very good job rebounding the basketball playing in somewhat of a stretch four role on both ends and was rewarded with more than one offensive board and put back. She showed soft hands and touch catching and finishing around the rim. Her ability to take off from several feet out without a lot of momentum and yet still high enough and able cover a lot of ground in getting closer to the rim was impressive. Stewart’s guard skills were on display as well coming up to relieve opposing teams’ pressure as she was being guarded by defenders who did not have the mobility to stay in front of her. Jelayna is quietly trending up this offseason. She’s a long, strong aggressive forward that hunts rebounds and likes to play physical. She scores through contact inside. When she catches near the low block, she is comfortable facing up to attack with a quick first step. Her motor leads her to outwork most opposing bigs. Against Miami Impact, Stewart recorded 12 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals. Jelayna will be an interesting prospect to track over her final two seasons.
