About Jordan
Expert Analysis
BJ Batson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Before going down very hard on a play and responsibly sitting out the rest of the event, Jordan was doing what she always does at that’s compete at the highest level, giving everything she has, on every play of the game. You can see the determination and fire as she speeds by defenders on the fast break before dropping off dimes cooly to her teammates for easy buckets. There are only a few players left like Jordan, who seem to enjoy making a sportscaster top ten type pass much more than scoring the ball with ease herself in transition. She is a one person wrecking crew on defense suffocating ball handlers using her elite quickness, in both her feet and hands. The lockdown defense along with some of the best ball handling in the country, and freak athleticism have made Speller one of the very best players in her class for the last five years or so. With her college decision on the horizon, it will be very interesting to see what school she chooses to continue her athletic and academic career. When I asked her about a timetable for a decision, she told me she was not exactly sure and she has not taken any of her official visits as off yet.

Jordan is a quick and athletic lefty guard who looks to get downhill and score in transition with electricity. She uses a good hesitation move to create space and elevates quickly to finish at the rim. She can also knock down the outside shot. Her speed and skill make her a constant threat in the open floor and half court.

was doing a nice job controlling the tempo for her team resetting the offense when needed and pushing the tempo running the floor well for fast breaks when available. She makes some nice plays dishing it to her teammates as she draws defenders away from them. She has phenomenal adjustments at the rim being able to make tough shots no matter who is trying to defend her.

is an exceptional athlete. She has a special finesse with the ball that allows her a chance to get to the rim, and she makes nice adjustments to be able to finish the shot even with hands in her face. Her ability to choose the right move to lose her defender is definitely fun to watch. She can certainly knock down her shot from deep, and she uses her IQ to help her anticipate what her opponents will do to grab steals on defense.

has a finesse with the ball that’s difficult to defend. She can use pump fakes on quick drives to the basket to score at the rim. She knows how to make the quick pass before her defenders can even react making some unreal passes leaving the gym in awe. She does not stop moving on the court constantly attacking the basket, following shots, or being a nuisance on defense.

is coming off a season that ended with her being the MVP of her state championship team. She’s a sensational athlete using a finesse with the ball to get to the rim, and she is a knockdown shooter from deep. Her IQ is really what sets her apart knowing exactly how to lose defenders and create a play with her sharp passes or her pull up jumpers.

High school sports aficionados across the Hoop State became very familiar with this multi-talented standout last season. Speller being at North Pitt – defending 2A state champion North Pitt – appears to be a case of the rich continuing to stay rich. Teams that would be on the opposite end of the Panthers used to have a Zamareya Jones problem on their hands. Jones is now at NC State and Speller is ready to take over as the face of the North Pitt girls program for the next four years. She more than made her presence known in the 2A state game vs. East Burke when she scored 31 points and came away with Kay Yow MVP honors. Northeastern, Boston College, Auburn, Miami, Arizona, Louisville, Mississippi State, Florida State, Pitt, Tennessee, North Carolina, SMU, Texas Southern and Georgia Tech have all offered her. She averaged 17.2 points, 5.7 assists and four steals per contest. One can see how she has established such a national profile.

Speller is special. She can do it all on the basketball court, and Speller does it all at a high level. She scores in bunches from inside and out. She can get to the foul line or drain a deep three. Speller can also pass. She has remarkable court vision and the ability to thread a perfect pass in the offense or the open court. On defense, Speller locks down. She uses her quickness and high basketball IQ to dominate the opposition. A year ago, she averaged over 4 steals per game.
