This was about the 7th-8th time I have seen Lieverst play in a calendar year with Montverde and HER Elite , but she played a different role than I had seen in previous games running the point position when Rogers or Ashanti Taylor were not. Mia has a well earned reputation for being a sharp shooting sniper from three, so it was a pleasant surprise to see her facilitate and run the offense when she got the opportunity. Mia has excellent size, is long, and made very good decisions with the ball. With Jordan Speller and other very talented guards at Montverde, I can’t remember her playing the point guard position in the past, but she did a really solid job. I saw other aspects of her game than just shooting like good and competent ball handling, nice vision and passing ability, and Mia was showed good vocal leadership as well. Lieverst did shoot the ball extremely well again from three while I was watching her play. She rarely misses in open catch and shoot situations and is also an excellent teammate who celebrates the success of others. I think that is a by product of her international experience with the Netherlands. She will be a very good division one player in college after another year of prep ball in Florida before graduating.

Mia did what she always does well knockdown shots from the perimeter consistently with a quick release and excellent form. At nearly 6′ tall she has a very high release point on the ball making it hard on smaller defenders to effect her jump shots. At Peach Games I saw her drive the ball to the basket more than I had in the three or so previous times I have watched her play. It looked like she had a point to prove that she was not just a shooter and she did by scoring multiple times in the paint with a few at the rim, both in the half court and in transition offense on the break. She handled the ball well and made several impressive passes against very strong competition all event long.

Mia joins Montverde from the Netherlands and brings valuable experience from competing in the EuroBasket U20 against older, experienced competition. She’s an efficient scorer who finishes tough plays at the rim and shoots the three with a quick, high release that she can knock down even on the move. Mia runs the floor with purpose, plays off two feet with strength, and uses her size to create matchup problems. As a big guard with versatility and poise, she adds an international edge to Montverde’s backcourt.
