Reclassification will see Gaffney move down from the 5A ranks into the 4A realm beginning in 2026-27. If Church’s team’s performance against host 2A Blacksburg was any indication, the 4A field is being put on notice. Gaffney was a 5A Division 2 Upper State finalist from last season. Church played in all 29 of Gaffney’s contests last season and she is showing indications of being ready to step up in her junior campaign after a pair of seniors graduated from last season’s Gaffney assembling. She is displaying leadership qualities of someone ascending to veteran status and leads by example with her on-court playmaking.
