Early on throughout Monday’s contest, Gaffney’s efforts were keyed by its star junior point guard. Mathis concluded the matchup with 14 points. Out of the 14 she tallied, nine occurred in the first half. Gaffney found plenty of success connecting on long-range jumpers early on – the team connected on six 3-pointers for the game. Three of those triples were courtesy of Mathis. She also understands keeping one’s hands outstretched on defense and is an on-court leader on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Mathis will also make the right passes at the right times to get her teammates in position to make plays.
