Nelson remains one of my favorite players to evaluate in the 2029 class because there is such a reassuring quality to having the ball in her hands. The 5’7 combo guard from Edina is a natural quarterback who sees openings early, escapes pressure and rarely gives possessions away. She has a deep bag of tricks but uses them with purpose rather than simply showing them off. Nelson consistently finds seams and creates opportunities for teammates while remaining a dangerous scorer herself. She’s an efficient three-point shooter capable of piling up numbers when she gets rolling. As Kaylie continues to grow and get stronger physically, an already intelligent, steady and highly skilled game becomes even more intriguing.

Nelson has developed into a highly efficient and reliable offensive piece for Edina, leading the team in scoring while shooting over 40% from three and 90% from the free throw line. A quick, shifty guard with the ability to change speed on command, she creates space with ease and can get downhill to finish at the rim. Nelson’s jump shot is consistent and repeatable, and she has the confidence to make big shots. Beyond scoring, she brings strong ball-handling, playmaking, and leadership to the floor. With a high IQ and a natural feel for the game, Nelson consistently creates opportunities for both herself and her teammates.

Nelson, younger sister of Colorado College junior Isa Nelson, showed similar traits with length, smooth form, and scoring ability. She creates her own shot, uses a high-arc jumper, and attacks explosively off the bounce. With Crossfire Elite this summer, she proved she could score in double digits against strong competition including at Summer Jam and Mill City. Confident and assertive, Nelson is emerging as a player who will surely make an impact at Edina.
