With major minutes in front of her, Kyla has done everything possible to earn her place in the River Ridge circle of trust. The lefty found herself in the right place at the right time throughout Wednesday night, sneaking in countless times to earn second chance opportunities. Kyla compiled 5 points, 10 rebounds and 1 steal.

Up from No. 40: Fits in very well with River Ridge. Lefty is a good three-point shooter that also is aggressive downhill. Provides energy on defense. Will continue to climb.

With Mataya Gayle graduated and her younger sister Niara headed down to Florida, Kyla Cantey Kyla Cantey 5'9" | CG River Ridge | 2026 State GA will have a much larger role as a sophomore. Kyla has shined over the offseason playing with the Knights, fitting in nicely as another athletic guard that can score from multiple levels. The wiry lefty poured in 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in Game 1 against North Paulding before leading the way against Alexander in Game 2 with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Cantey is a nice prospect that will pop up on college radars in due time. Her coming out party against Buford in the GBCA has really set the tone for her growth over the summer.

It wasn’t her most efficient outing to start, but Kyla showed great mettle as she stuck with it and willed herself to a strong game and more importantly a win. Cantey put up 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 block in a 48-36 victory. Kyla left a handful of shots short early on, then decided to find her rhythm by slashing to the basket. Once she got into a groove, it helped open up the floor for easier looks on the perimeter. The southpaw did a nice job scoring from all three levels and implemented her right hand when she got to the hole.

Confidence and consistency have grown this offseason. Lanky guard is a good shooter from the three-point line and mid-range.  Brings energy on defense. Smart decision maker. Will see an expanded role as a sophomore.
