Makayla consistently found herself in the right place at the right time and made timely plays on both ends of the floor. She impressed with her ability to score around the rim as a guard, including finishing over her defender in the post. Mak showed a strong left hand both off the dribble and on finishes inside. She made an impact defensively with big blocks, attacked the baseline for a runner, and was effective going downhill as a finisher at the rim. She also knocked down the outside shot and played with high energy throughout.

Roberson has shown throughout her early career her ability to make an impact without needing to score consistently. The defensive ace did it again, posting 6 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks. She scored on a pretty step-thru move and a scoop layup, showcasing her offensive skill. Defensively she drew the task of guarding the Panthers’ shifty backcourt.

Roberson quickly emerged as one of the better on-ball defenders in the state in Year 1. The state champ brought that same intensity to camp, defending the full length of the floor when asked. Roberson does a good job of turning ball handlers and is quick to beat them to the spot. Makayla found points in transition and created off the dribble in the halfcourt as both a scorer and facilitator. Roberson is capable of playing on or off the ball. When she’s not the primary ball handler, she’s a weapon from the three-point line in catch-and-shoot situations.

wasn’t the most ballyhooed freshman in the game, but she once again proved that she could compete with the very best in her class as she finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block. Roberson has guarded other teams’ best players all throughout the season and Tuesday was no exception, drawing the difficult task of slowing down blue-chipper Katie Harpring. While Harpring got her points at the end of the day, Roberson played a key role in helping tire her out. Roberson used her quickness to stay in front and make Harpring earn baskets the hard way. Roberson’s most impressive play came at the end of the first half, alertly coming up to wrestle away a rolled in inbound, had the presence of mind to sit up and wait for her teammates to cross half court and ended up assisting to

Makayla also hit big threes to answer any long ball the War Eagles connected on, sinking three on the night. Roberson’s dynamic two-way play has been an X-Factor all season for the Knights. She’s a surefire D-I prospect.

It was a big spot for Roberson playing against one of the state’s most storied programs in the mecca of Georgia high school hoops. While Makayla got chewed into a few times by Coach Jason Taylor, she didn’t fold and showed great resolve as she accepted hard coaching and rose to the occasion. Roberson stepped up, especially in the paint as she posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She found herself around the basket often, pulling down rebounds to score on putbacks and earn second chance possessions. Roberson did a nice job guarding Buford’s star freshman and has shown over the course of her first season to be an incredibly valuable defender.
