About Laila

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a quiet player who surprises people. I’m very fast for my position and good at making quick steals and defending.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I stay calm under pressure and like to lead by example. I work hard and don’t need to be loud to make an impact.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m in honors classes with a 3.8 GPA, and I enjoy math and science.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve learned a lot about teamwork and being reliable. I show up and give my best every time.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I’ve dealt with knee pain, so I made the tough decision to play on JV as a Freshman rather than Varsity, despite making the team, to build my skills without pushing my body too hard.

What type of college are you looking for?

A college with strong academics and a program where I can grow and make a difference.

Willoby-Taylor is a tough prospect to evaluate, because the physical and athletic traits give her clear upside. But to date, her production hasn’t matched the potential. She’s tall, strong and has a massive wingspan. In part viewings, she’s looked light on her feet relative to her height. And has put that solid quickness and huge wingspan to good use on the defensive end. The fundamentals appear to be there for her to be a difference maker at the rim. And on a team filled with some of the best guards in Oklahoma, she has the potential to carve out a role as a defensive anchor.
