The other Lady Bronco in double figures with 11 points. Good connector energy on offense, as she often makes the right pass in the halfcourt and unselfish play in transition. As always, was tough and disruptive on defense. Have seen development in all phases of her offensive game this season. Clearly is becoming a “jack of all trades” player, thriving in her bigger role with Mustang.

Strong finish to the tournament for Haywood. Was in double figures scoring to close out the event, but impact went beyond that. Was credited 3 steals and importantly 4 assists. She’s known for her wingspan, athleticism and defensive timing. But development on the offensive end is needed to unlock her own and Mustang’s ceiling this year.

Fittingly her game got going when she slid over and took a helpside charge. She complimented her defensive ability by catching fire from three. Maybe she wasn’t on the scout as a shooter, but she kept slipping loose along the perimeter and was cashing out from deep. Kept making plays on defense. Including having the quickness and awareness to set up an opponent to draw a charge on a push off attempt. Tough loss for Mustang but an impressive start to Haywood’s junior year and her bigger role.

Mustang is in the conversation for the Class 6A State Title and the defense of Haywood will be a huge part of their identity. She impressed as a depth piece last year, but with the graduation of her older sister there is room for Haywood to increase her production. Has a great foundation with her athleticism that she uses to fuel her havoc causing defense and strong rebounding. While her improving spot up shooting gives her the potential to follow in the D1 footsteps of her older siblings.

Listed as shooting guard that plays more like a CG (complete guard) Stood out this weekend on both ends of the court with her all out hustle attitude. The outside shot was on point all weekend. A highly effective shooter on the catch or off the dribble. Impressive was the shot selection, meaning she read the defense before the catch knowing if she was shooting the jumper or attacking the rim on the close out. Strong finisher on the baseline drives that used the last step at the glass to square the body using it as protection against the block. Nice open floor handles that showed great vision up the floor on the breaks.
On defense she was consistently all over the court. Low stance and quick lateral movement kept the ball handler in front of her, staying between them and the goal. Monster rebounds crashing the boards from about 10 feet out. Great nose for the ball on the boards. A 2027 that is having a great summer circuit and I believe will continue that into school ball this season.

Next up for a family that is no stranger to producing D1 ballers is the 2027 standout from Mustang. Was a key part of the swarming, non stop defense for the Class 6A runner up Lady Broncos. She also found her spots to score, including mid-range and drives to the basket. But like all Haywood family members, she often hangs her hat on her outstanding defensive principles. Looks ready to take a big jump as a junior. As a key part of a Mustang team that should stay among the top contenders in Class 6A.

The district 6th man of the year looks like she is ready to assume that starting role and help the Lady Mustangs return back to State. A high percentage shooting guard that has feet and hands ready just waiting for the ball on the kickouts. Nice footwork on the baseline runs using a step back creating good passing lanes away from defender good handles with a quick change of direction has her weaving through a zone defense getting to the paint making things happen. A player that makes offense happen with her outstanding defense. A weak pass in her direction leads to a turnover and layup for the Lady Broncos. Hard to say breakout season for a 6th man but expect big games this season for Ms. Lovely

The tradition of the Haywood family making an impact will continue for at least a few more years. Like her older sisters and older brother before her, Haywood is a long armed, defensive minded tonesetter. Great motor and athleticism, allow her to really get after it on the defense. She’s carved out an important niche on an upperclassman heavy team. It’s probably safe bet that with the mindset and talent of the family, this Haywood will also end up playing at the collegiate level.
