Another successful season for Buford, finishing the year 27-2 (12-0 in Region 8) before a lose in a clash of the titans with Newton in the second round. I saw them play several times and Ledford was the straw that stirred the drink for the Lady Wolves. She was excellent on defense as well, particularly putting extreme pressure on ball handlers and forcing several turnovers a game. Many of those resulted in uncontested layups for Lydia as she did the work on defense. Offensively, she is very efficient scoring the ball. She did an excellent job picking her times and opportunities to score while also getting her talented teammates involved. Ledford got stronger as the game went on especially in Buford’s full court pressure defense where she came up with numerous steals and converted the easy two herself or found an open teammate. Ledford is an excellent shooter but did most of her work in the paint in this game. She was very effective driving to the middle and shooting over her defender after a head fake and equally as good pushing the ball in transition beating her defender down the floor. She scored several uncontested layups on the fast break. She took over the game in the second half for the Wolves.

Lydia showed the poise and polish of an experienced hooper throughout the weekend. She knocked down shots with confidence and showed nice elevation and balance on her jumper. Her ability to attack the lane and make the right reads stood out as she consistently created scoring chances for herself and teammates. The Chattanooga commit played with maturity and unselfishness which set the tone as a reliable veteran presence in every session.

Ledford got going in the second half pouring in nine of her 13 points in the third quarter to bust open a three-point halftime lead over Central-Macon into a commanding 62-44 advantage. Lydia got aggressive on offense, netting a corner three, flashing for a short-range jumper, hitting a pull-up and scoring in transition. Ledford was able to help fill the box score, collecting 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

‘s upside. First of all, she has an athletic frame with broad shoulders and wiry, yet strong length. It looks like adding muscle over the next 4-8 years shouldn’t be a problem at all. Offensively, Lydia is comfortable using both hands, able to attack with her left before pulling up to shoot over the defense. Ledford is a good three-point shooter. Her versatility extends to the defensive end of the floor. She can guard nearly every position and is a crucial piece as Buford’s tallest player on the roster. Ledford did a little bit of everything vs. River Ridge with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Lydia is a capable score from the perimeter and at the rim. She has a high IQ on the defensive side of the ball as well, knowing how to guard both on the ball and off. She communicates well with teammates and is not afraid to direct traffic even in a showcase format. She contributed in every statistical category when I watched her. She was engaged every second on the court and did not wait around for something to happen, instead being a catalyst for many positive plays for her team. Heading to Buford High School this year, you can trust that she will continue to develop and learn the game at a high level.
