Ames is a relentless defender whose on-ball pressure disrupts opposing offenses. She is comfortable guarding on the perimeter, using active feet, physicality, and disciplined positioning to force ball handlers into difficult decisions, pick up their dribble, or give the ball up altogether. She sets the tone defensively with her ability to make every possession challenging for the player she is assigned to guard.

PVI fell behind early in this game, and they struggled to score in the opening frame as a collective. Lyla knocked down a handful of threes, and her ability as a floor spacer and back-to-the-basket game makes her a really solid offensive threat. She finished with a team-high 12 points.

Has good size and is a good athlete. Offensively, she posts big to receive the ball, and finishes through contact utilizing. That she can move her feet and open her hips on the ball screen switch. Smart player stays within her skillset to execute plays. Still a refined player that has potential that is still developing into a good stretch four.

What stood out most was Lyla’s ball handling. Against full-court pressure, she displayed a variety of moves rarely seen from a player of her size. Her combination of size and skill allows her to contribute both in the frontcourt and backcourt. Thursday, she hit a huge three to keep Paul VI in the game. Defensively, she held her own, showing balanced footwork on the perimeter. Lyla is a player to watch in the W.C.AC.

Is making a big jump to Paul VI! A two year starter at Hampton high school where she averaged figures both years. Played a key role on state championship runner- up team that almost won the title! She is no doubt a skilled basketball player that will be taking a step up playing against great competition in the great conference.

Lyla Ames Lyla Ames 6'0" | PF Osbourn Park | 2027 State VA is a rebounding machine and a good interior scorer. Lyla has been fantastic for Hampton in her first two years, and she has been a walking double-double so far. Lyla is a good interior defender and uses her strength well.
