We have been saying that this AAU season is an important one for the 2027 Class and that is true because the AAU season is very important when it’s your last chance to show what you can do for college coaches on the road. Someone who is looking to make the most of this opportunity is

. O’Brien, the 5’10 PG, is another player that is switching AAU programs moving into this Spring. She will now compete with
Lady Pure Prep
out of the DSM area on the New Balance Circuit. She should be one of their best overall prospects so I expect her to get a big share of the workload on both sides of the ball with this group. She currently holds one D1 offer and interest from a few others. If she shows her worth at a sustainable rate over the next month or so, I’m sure she will have more interest from the next level, prior to her commitment.

to Hudson High School has been a respectable one this Winter. O’Brien comes into the program and brings skill on and off of the basketball. She is mainly a PG with great size, that is at her best when the rock is in her hands but she can also play off the ball and be a threat from the Wing or Corner as well. O’Brien has brought a balanced attacking style with her this Winter for her program. She has made them more dynamic as a whole and she has definitely made them tougher to stop overall. We have Macey as a future D1 prospect. The skill, size, and determination is all there – it’s really just going to be up to whoever gives her the opportunity in the end and whatever place feels more like home to her.

is slowly picking up recognition as a high quality hooper to D1 programs out there. To kick off this week, O’Brien received an offer from Ivey League – Cornell to continue on following her high school career. This is now O’Brien’s second D1 offer but it won’t be her last. Whenever you have a situation where an Ivey league school steps into the mix, you are sure to have multiple schools from that conference reach out. I would not be shocked if O’Brien held 3-7 Ivey League offers at the end of the day before committing. Her skill is obviously there as a top notch PG at 5’10. Now it’s just all about what she can do within her new program at Hudson High School. If she can take that program over and do her thing, I’m sure her interest will continue to sky-rocket.

and her game over the next eight months at the high school level within her new program at Hudson High School. O’Brien will have some room to breathe throughout this season compared to years past. She will have others around her that can play, so now opposing programs won’t be able to just focus on her. This will give her more space, more time to react, and more support within her team’s systems. If something happens to break down, O’Brien will still be looked upon to save the day but it won’t be their only option. All in all, this Winter is one in which O’Brien needs to prove that she is D1 material across the board. If she takes care of business per usual, that shouldn’t be a problem but only time will tell.

When you usually talk about Paint Protectors, you speak about Post prospects. Forwards, Centers, Big Combo Guards but someone who might be one of the best blocking guards in the state, who is now in a new program is

. O’Brien recorded right around 60 Blocks last Winter while carrying her Columbus Catholic Program out of Dubuque. This time around, O’Brien will be at Hudson for the next two years and I think this change is going to really highlight what she can do on the hardwood. In this situation, O’Brien would be asked to carry everyone in most statistical categories so she can focus on what she does best. Something I can’t wait to see first-hand over the next 24 months.

. O’Brien of Hudson High School is a PG you want on your team. She has lengthy arms for her height at 5’10, she is considered a pass-first PG but with her size she can dominate individual matchups, she is always active on the boards, and she can be her team’s defensive stopper at any given moment. O’Brien has had to really work by herself the past couple of years. I can’t imagine how she would fair with talented prospects like herself around her out on the floor but I’m sure her game would then look even more impressive then it already does. She holds 1 current D1 offer but that won’t be her last. I’m sure the schools in her home state of Iowa are having conversations about her as we speak.

notched her first D1 offer to Chicago State in Illinois. O’Brien, a 5’10 PG, is going to be a viable option for several Division-1 teams at the end of the day. It’s just going to come down to her fit over everything else. O’Brien is someone that could be considered pass-first as a PG but with her natural reach, she is also a solid option to score herself on the offensive end. This same reach helps her on defense as well. She gets her hands on a lot of tips/deflections and she has the ability to switch between who she is guarding in most situations. This versatility is going to be a key factor to her success for the rest of her high school career and into the next level of college ball.

is bright on the basketball court. O’Brien is coming off of a high school season she will never forget but that may not be for the reasons that you are thinking. O’Brien didn’t have a lot of help this Winter on the Varsity floor but that’s all going to change before you know. We are talking about a lengthy PG, that has interest from D1 colleges across the state of Iowa at this time. These colleges are going to be into see O’Brien this AAU season. As long as she shows off her capabilities, she could end up with her first D1 offer before you know it. This is exciting and all but don’t get it twisted, this isn’t someone who is going to chase offers. She is going to look for the best fit for herself in the long run and that shows her maturity on several different levels already.

is going to be an interesting switch, where we will get to see what she is really made out of as a prospect. Up until this point in her career, O’Brien has handled her business on the court so it’ll be refreshing to see a new challenge with a competent Lady Martin Bros program. As an individual, O’Brien has interest from all division from the college level at this time because of her lengthy play-making ability. At the guard spot, she is a tough player to stay in front of in 1v1 situations, while she usually gets to where she wants to go for either a bucket or an assist. Following this high school season, her recruitment should continue to heat up but we will just have to see.
