We expected Mahala to step up, and in her first game she showed exactly the kind of potential she can bring this season. For a player her size, she’s comfortable picking up the ball and operating on the perimeter, adding versatility to her game.

She covers ground well and does a great job finding space in the paint, putting herself in position to make plays. That combination of mobility and awareness makes her a valuable presence on the floor moving forward.

With Utah Prospects heading to Vegas this weekend, she’ll step into a key role alongside Nation Williams, forming what has the potential to be a highly effective interior duo. Their ability to play off one another in the paint should create consistent problems for opposing defenses. Mahala’s presence in that pairing allows her to thrive both as a contributor and as a complementary piece, opening up more opportunities to impact the game.

More importantly, this stage gives her added exposure in front of programs that are actively evaluating talent. Competing against high-level opponents while surrounded by strong teammates puts her in a position to stand out, and if she capitalizes on those moments, it could significantly elevate her recruitment profile.

Mahala already checks many of the boxes you want in a high-school post: size, rebound prowess, finishing ability, and defensive upside. She’ll be a force for the next few years, anchoring Wasatch’s paint on both ends and giving them a chance to compete with the top wings and forwards across the region.

Mahala showed steady growth in rebounding and shot-blocking last season, averaging around 7.7 boards and 1.3 blocks per game. What’s even more impressive is how she’s not just staying in the post. She’s getting mobile, attending camps, and extending her game out beyond 15 feet with more consistency, which boosts her versatility and appeal to college programs.

Offensively, Mahala uses her length and timing to finish strong at the rim and grab second-chance buckets. Defensively, she’s already showing the instincts of a rim protector. With another offseason of refinement and a full varsity slate ahead, she’s one to keep locked in on the radar.

Mahala is a big who knows how to finish when she gets the pass, and Fili Liava’a Fili Liava’a 5'6" | CG Wasatch | 2026 State UT should be the one setting her up again this year after leading the Wasps in assists last season. Mahala still has another year to grow and develop, but she’s already established herself as the player her teammates look up to.

Speardon was showcasing some new skills out there on the floor. Speardon has found some touch from the outside as she was hitting three’s in pick and pop situations as well as some trail three’s. With her added range she becomes even more dangerous to defend. Inside she had some plays where she was just too big and strong to stop. She has improved a lot since we last saw her at state.
