About Avery
Expert Analysis
Tonia Ziter | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
As one of the driving forces behind Westlake’s standout season, Avery made her presence felt across multiple categories. She led both her team and this group of players in production, finishing first in assists (4 per game), third in steals (3 per game), fourth in scoring (12.4 per game), and adding 3.8 rebounds per game. What separates her is her speed and burst getting downhill—once she turns the corner, she’s tough to contain. Pair that with her tight handle and ability to keep defenders off balance, and she becomes a constant problem for opposing defenses.

Avery’s speed and movement were on full display all night. Few defenders were able to stay in front of her, and she took advantage by scoring off the dribble, attacking the lane, and finding teammates on the drive-and-dish. On the defensive end, she was just as disruptive, coming from behind to poke the ball loose and create deflections.

One of the biggest risers in the top 10 is Avery — and anyone who has watched her this season understands exactly why. She plays with an elite motor and a tight handle, navigating anywhere she wants on the floor and breaking down defenders regardless of their size. If her defender gives even a sliver of space, she’ll punish it by pulling from deep without hesitation. She’s the engine of Westlake’s offense, their most dynamic scoring threat, and her continued growth as both a playmaker and leader has elevated the entire program.

Avery showed great composure and vision on the floor tonight. She didn’t force the ball when driving, instead drawing defenders in just enough before finding the open teammate. Her timing on those kick-outs to the perimeter was spot on, setting up clean looks for shooters and keeping the defense constantly rotating.
What stood out most was her unselfish play — she didn’t need to be under pressure to make the right read.
