About Mariah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a point guard with an aggressive, dynamic playing style. I excel in slashing through defenses and executing give-and-go plays. I thrive on driving to the basket, often beating my defender with quick moves and agility. My offensive game is complemented by a short jump shot, making me a versatile and challenging player to guard. My defensive pressure often results in steals and stops.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am resilient, positive and hardworking. I am always looking to improve my game and I am a sponge soaking in every learning opportunity. I have a strong work ethic and I lead by example. I let my game speak for itself.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am consistently on the honor roll

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a leader on my team. I am vocal and have great communication skills. I am a team player and always looking to get everyone on the team involved. When I’m not playing basketball I am volunteering in the children’s ministry at my church. I’ve participated in a mission’s trip where I helped build houses in Kentucky.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I love to play off the wing and make basket cuts. In middle school I played off the ball a lot because I could cut and get to the basketball to put the ball up. Moving to high school I had to change up my game due to my size. I’m now running point guard which was a challenge at first because I was always off the ball. I’m confident now and facilitating in my new role.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would like to play for a college or university that is inclusive with a competitive girls basketball program. I’m looking for a supportive coaching staff that will help maximize my skills and potential. I am open to private or a public university, whichever offers my program of study and allows me to contribute doing what I love, playing basketball.

Mariah, a guard for Team Synergy , brought a high level of energy on the defensive end at PGH MI College Tour II – Wayne State. When her team applied full-court pressure, she was a constant disruptor, using her activity and anticipation to create problems for opposing ball handlers and force turnovers. She consistently converted those defensive stops into offense in transition. Along with her defensive impact, she handled the ball confidently and showed strong decision-making, helping her team stay organized while playing at an effective tempo.

Mariah showed athleticism and skill at Team Synergy practice that make her an intriguing prospect. She finished layups well with both hands in drills and the games. Mariah was active on the boards and did a great job of gaining the inside position to secure rebounds. She blew by defenders using a shifty crossover spin dribble and finished the contested layup. Mariah made a nice entry pass over the defense and pivoted to kick the ball out to a shooter on the perimeter. She secured an offensive rebound and scored off two feet using a fancy high pick-up move. Mariah added an authoritative left-handed and-one layup after beating her defender with a crossover.

If there was one word I would use to describe Mariah, it would be competitive! She does not let up at all defensively, and that energy spreads to the team! When she steals the ball, she’s off to the races! Swift feet and great handles!

Mariah had a couple of wow moments for Canton at HYPE on Sunday. She scored an incredibly tough angled left-handed layup off two feet over her defender and dribbled downhill with a burst to the basket to score another layup. Mariah contributed rebounds on both ends and her progress continues to show.
