Maury High School head coach Julius Owens has done a solid job building Maury into a competitive program, while Nyla Brown Nyla Brown 5'7" | CG/SG Maury | 2027 State VA has done her part on the court.

With deep three-point range, Brown’s offensive game demands attention whenever the ball is in her hands. Athletic enough to thrive in transition as either a ball handler or wing finisher. She can score in both the open floor and half-court sets. Defensively, she has the ability to shut down opposing wings, and with continued development as an on-ball defender, Brown could become one of the names to watch next season.

Brown is a physical guard who creates offense by attacking the rim and knocking down perimeter shots. She is active defensively, using anticipation to disrupt passing lanes. Her ability to turn defense into transition offense makes her a key piece for YKS.

Brown has the ability to turn any lazy pass into a fast break heading the other direction. If her development continues on its current trajectory, expect Brown to draw significant attention next season as one of the key players to watch in the region.

Most game plans against Maury begin with slowing down La’Marri Budd. However, overlooking Brown could prove costly. As Maury prepares to face No. 1 seed Menchville in the Region 5B semifinals. Brown’s sharpshooting and two-way impact make her a potential X-factor. A quick guard with the instincts to disrupt passing lanes and turn defense into offense. Brown can finish in transition and stretch defenses from the perimeter when left open. If she finds her rhythm early, Brown has the ability to create serious problems for the Monarchs and swing the momentum toward Maury.

Nyla Brown Nyla Brown 5'7" | CG/SG Maury | 2027 State VA is a fun player to watch. She is quick and hard to stay in front of. With her strength and skill around the rim, she is a good finisher. Nyla is a great scorer while also being a terrific defender. She can play either guard position and has the potential to be a two-way star.
