About Nyla
Expert Analysis

Head Coach Robert Leadley describes Nyla as “a true competitor who can score at all three levels and a top student.” I’m not sure if the Lakes Valley Conference gives out an MVP award, but if they did, Nyla would be the recipient. She led the Cougars to a 21-1 record (12-0 in conference) with their only loss coming to a ranked Farmington Hills Mercy squad. Nyla contributed in every statistic, averaging 16 points (52% FG%, 35% 3FG%), 6.5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3.1 assists per game. In the postseason, she has continued to deliver for the Cougars, leading the team with 24 points during their District Final victory against Northville and pouring in 20 points in a double-overtime win against Saline in the Regional Semifinal.

Nyla’s been a top guard in the LVC throughout her career and she’s turning in a stellar senior campaign for South Lyon East. Nyla was a top five performer at the Airport Showcase and consistently puts up double-digits on the scoreboard. She led the Cougars in points with 19 during a win against Lakeland. Nyla penetrates gaps with a burst off the dribble, crashes the glass, finishes in traffic, knocks down mid-range/perimeter jumpers, and creates steals on the defensive end.

Nyla is a senior guard who should be on more college radars right now. She put her best on display during the Airport Showcase for South Lyon East. Nyla was persistent on the offensive glass, drove with long strides and a burst to the basket for layups, and stepped into a pass with confidence to bury a wing three. She ripped the ball to keep it from being tied up in a crowd, knocked down mid-range jumpers, and kept ball-handlers uncomfortable with her pressure. Nyla is a dynamic two-way playmaker for the undefeated Cougars. She finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, and five steals.

Nyla had her mid-range shot falling for her at the Swartz Creek Showcase on Saturday. Nyla scored several mid-range jumpers off the catch and the bounce, then converted a strong layup after driving to the basket. She is an athletic guard who will be a prospect to watch in the LVC this year.

Nyla used her athleticism, quickness, three-level scoring ability, and defensive determination to help SLE win a fourth consecutive LVC title in 2023. She was a breakout player in the conference, earning All-Conference First Team honors. With Anna graduating, Nyla will shoulder a heavier offensive load this winter. She is a lethal scorer and passer in transition after creating steals. Nyla blows by defenders when she attacks off the dribble, dishes assists to teammates, and knocks down perimeter jumpers. I expect Nyla to have an elite season as a junior and receive LVC Player of the Year consideration.

Nyla had a great day for South Lyon East on Saturday at Northwood Team Camp. She had her sites lined up from beyond the arc hitting 3s from the wing, corner 3, and up top. Nyla stole the ball away and attacked downhill to get to the line. During the OT Tourney, she worked to secure an offensive rebound and score a tough and one off two. Nyla skips the ball across the court with strong, accurate passes to teammates.

2025. She carved out a huge role for herself with South Lyon East last season and has noticeably developed an effective three level offensive game. Nyla was praised by Coach Fannon as a go-to offensive scorer for her team. She came right to practice from softball and showed no signs of fatigue in her game. She was one of the highest percentage shooters during the relocation 3 point shooting drill. Nyla combines her balance and speed to outrace others for rebounds on both ends; she has the strength to battle for positioning or elevate over the top for the ball. Nyla makes strong passes and has unique athleticism that many guards don’t (MOI, Undecided).

Lake certainly deserves to be added to the list of ranked prospects. Lake is a smooth and strong athlete that’s at her best in attack mode and trying to get downhill on her defenders. She does a solid job pushing the pace with her head up, seeing the floor and making plays in the open floor.
