About NyLasia
Expert Analysis
Jill Dunn | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Gipson is a 7th grader that plays like an upperclassmen every time she steps on the court. Not only are her numbers impressive but her mentality is always exceptional as a young player. She led her team in points, field goal percentage and three-point field goals on the varsity squad. NyLasia has a solid all-around game and she still has another year of middle school. The sky is the limit!!

Gipson’s SCISA 4A Ben Lippen team may have been on the receiving end of a come-from-behind bid courtesy of 5A Division 1 Fort Dorchester. While the Patriots earned the 41-40 victory, Gipson still put forth a winning performance with a 24-point effort. Gipson established herself early and often from behind the 3-point arc as she connected on four of her tries from deep – all on the wing. Out of the 24 she finished with, 12 occurred in the first quarter of play. Gipson also displays leadership skills not always seen in seventh grader and is as much a problem for opponents as a defender as she is with the ball in her hand.

There are fewer teams across the state the symbolize its depth of young talent more than SCISA 4A Ben Lippen. The Falcons are 3-1 so far and have been victorious in three of its matchups against in-state opponents (Lowcountry Wildcats, 4A public Richland Northeast, 2A public Marion). Gipson scored 15 points in the 52-39 victory over the Swamp Foxes. She also had 11 in the 44-22 win over the Cavaliers. The team’s only loss thus far was a one-point defeat to Ambassador Christian out of North Carolina. Gipson has great ball-handling skills and displays leadership skills more often seen in more experienced players. She approaches every game with a great blend of confidence, tenacity and fearlessness.

Gipson is rapidly establishing herself as one of the faces of the Palmetto State’s ever-robust youth movement. For someone who is as young as Gipson is, she is displaying the leadership skills and confidence more often seen in seniors and juniors. That leadership, confidence and activity away from the ball only compliment her ability to make plays as both a scorer and as a ball distributor. In large part because of her, SCISA 4A Ben Lippen will be one of the teams to keep an eye out for this season – and for the next several as Gipson continues to build her profile.
