and championship Saturdays. She was dialed in early from deep hitting threes just like last year’s title game. Similar to last year, her hot shooting led to Washington to a blowout win to secure the Class 3A title in style. Finished with a team high 16 points and is headed to UCO where she’ll keep knocking down threes and playing stellar defense.

Johnson was a hero of the 3A State Tournament last year, with sizzling shooting from beyond the arc in the semifinals and finals for Washington. It’s continued this year as she’s shot it so well that she’s caught the attention of and then committed to UCO. Along with her shooting powers, she can help out on the glass. And can cover multiple positions on the defensive end because she has a long wingspan to go along with her height. She’s one of the lynchpins for Washington, a team that is one of the best teams in Oklahoma regardless of class.

Named Most Valuable Player of the tournament. With all of their terrific weapons, the coach in me would hate coaching against Johnson the most. Just when a team does everything right, there is a 6 footer on the perimeter that shoots high arching 3’s that you can tell is going in the moment it leaves her hand. Will pull them in transition as well.

Johnson has impressed on the biggest stage possible; the Big House. This year in helping the Lady Warriors get over the hunt, she caught fire in the quarterfinals. Then was part of a barrage of three pointers the following days, which helped Washington run away with the Class 2A Gold Ball. To go along with her stellar shooting, she has good size and willing to compete on defense and as a rebounder. Great combination of individual production and team success on her resume.

Great size for a combo guard that can flat out shoot the 3 point shot. Nice footwork on the step out creating space for the shot. Deep range that has you picking her up when she crosses half court. Point proven last year in playoffs when she knocked down 6 3-pointers against Alva. Moves great off the ball finding gaps in the defense for easy back door layups. Scrappy offensive rebounder that crashed the board looking for the put back. A player that from my understanding is not on the circuit this summer. This young lady can play at the next level check her out.

Do not leave her open! Johnson opened the second quarter with a triple, then next possession raced down the court following a defensive rebound and hit another three. She would repeat that trick a few more times before the halfway mark of the second frame. Which turned what was a chippy defensive slugfest into a double digit Washington lead. After the explosive second quarter, Dale did a better job of accounting for her. But late in the fourth, she did grab a big offensive rebound, put it back and was fouled for another three point play. Finished with a team high 22 points.

Johnson was a key component of Washington’s smothering post defense and aggressive rebounding. She has a nose for the ball on the offensive glass, along with constantly moving off the ball to open spots. The sophomore showed a good first step and quickness when attacking with the ball and enjoyed a super productive game as she helped top ranked Washington to a quarterfinal win at the Big House.
