The Eau Claire Memorial guard is an athletic kid who can defend like her hair’s on fire. She has speed and can move laterally as well as anyone. Shaw’s mind works quickly, and she understands how to play the advantage. For example, if she gets a defensive rebound, she’s busting it up the floor and running in transition. The Old Abe guard is a pesky defender who usually takes the most challenging perimeter assignment each game, and she doesn’t mind guarding against kids that outsize her. It almost seems like she enjoys that kind of challenge. However, her ability to generate extra possessions will keep her on the floor in high school games and draw attention from coaches at the next level.
