The young post player from the Eau Claire area is all of 6-5 or 6-6 and will catch college coaches’ attention for that alone. However, Borcherding has come a long way over the last year and is playing more physically as the days go by. She will be a triple-double threat with blocks as long as she stays on the floor for Regis. Borcherding is a kid who plays hard, moves well for her size, and has plenty of room to broaden her offensive skillset.

The old adage that “you can’t teach size” certainly applies to Evelyn, who already stands around 6’5” with impressive length and physical upside. Her catch radius alone creates major advantages offensively, while defensively her size and reach allow her to deter shots, block attempts around the rim, and clean up rebounds at a high level. She also shows the ability to score with either hand around the basket, adding to her long-term offensive upside. With her frame and natural tools, Evelyn possesses enormous positional and developmental potential moving forward.

The physical traits speak for themselves. Borcherding is a 6-6 post player with some touch and a motor on the defensive end. There is plenty of room for growth on both ends of the floor, but sometimes there are players you can’t miss, physically and literally. We haven’t had a player like her in Wisconsin for a few years, and she has the tools to elevate to another level with some development, which she showed over the last 12 months.

Evelyn showed everything you would want to see from a young player with her size- great mobility, soft hands, and a willingness to play with great effort. Borcherding gets up and down the floor with good speed and consistency and made plays in transition for AIA the first two days of the tournamen. Her ability to move in tight quarters with the ball without committing turnovers was a bonus as she went over and around the smaller defenders she faced in the game. Evelyn finished with several offensive rebounds, many of which came as the trailer on the break. Defensively, she also impacted the game with several blocked shots and altering multiple others. Offensively, when she got the ball on the perimeter she did a nice job making one quick move, getting the defender to react, and then driving past them to the basket. A very bright future ahead for Evelyn, no doubt.

The Eau Claire area native is a player who will catch the attention of any college coach because of her 6-5 size. However, she has improved since I first saw her play over this past AAU season. She plays with physicality and is willing to use her size around the basket. Borcherding has also shown some touch around the basket and the free-throw line, which is something that will help her as she continues developing.
