Shayla Smith | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Saunders is a point guard that plays beyond her year. A player that has been playing up for her high school for years. She is a true floor general that understands how to control the game. Great decision-making skills on the offensive end and has the ability to blow by her opponents with her quick first step. A player that can score from anywhere on the floor and sometimes the only way to keep her from scoring is to not let her touch the ball. Saunders will be in conversation as one of the top 2030s in the state.

is one of the top players in the 2029 class, and her playmaking ability is next level. Saunders is fast and shifty with the ball and has the ability to create offense from multiple areas of the floor. She can get to the rim, score in the midrange, and knock down shots from the perimeter. Saunders is equally capable of making an impact defensively, where she pressures the ball and uses her quickness to disrupt opposing guards. Her appeal as a prospect is undeniable because she consistently makes plays on both ends of the floor. Whether she is creating offense, scoring the basketball, or applying defensive pressure, Saunders finds ways to impact the game.

was not only one of the top performers in the 2030 class and younger group, but arguably one of the top performers of the entire day. Saunders’ game is very advanced and at times, playing against her peers almost seemed unfair. Her speed was undeniable as she pushed the tempo, ran the offense, and consistently got downhill to the rim. What stood out even more was her ability to attack equally well going right or left, making her extremely difficult to stop. Defensively, Saunders was a pest. She pressured the ball, jumped passing lanes, got steals, and turned them into layups all day long. For such a young prospect, her combination of speed, command, two-way impact, basketball IQ, leadership, and advanced feel for the game made a major statemen and the MVP of the Reps on Reps showcase.

Saunders displayed impressive speed, a quick first step, and strong ball-handling ability at the showcase. Saunders used her quickness to get to the rim and score, and she also showed a high basketball IQ for such a young player. Despite just entering the ninth grade, Saunders has already spent the past few years playing varsity basketball, and that experience shows in the way she plays the game. Saunders is an extremely competitive guard who excels in transition and can score at multiple levels. She has a solid midrange game and loves to attack the rim. One thing that really stood out was her shooting during the three-point contest, where she showed the ability to knock down shots from behind the arc. Saunders plays the game like a true point guard. Her quickness allows her to beat defenders, get into the paint, and force defenses to help. When the double-team comes, Saunders recognizes it and finds open teammates on the perimeter. She can be a shooter’s dream because of her ability to create those wide-open opportunities for her teammates.

has finally made it to High School after making the state playoffs two consecutive years as a middle schooler. She was really quick with the ball, and the defense was geared to stop her as the point guard. Saunders possesses great speed, very good handles, and great point guard skills. She keeps her teammates involved and knows when to attack the rim, shoot the jumper, or dish to a teammate. Saunders continues to attack the rim and can draw fouls and score in the middle. She played like a state championship point guard, and as the new teammates cement their roles, there are no worries at the point guard position. Saunders has that position on lock.

Reah’s quickness immediately stood out as one of the most exciting 2030’s in the building. Her first step is explosive and she consistently used it to gain an advantage against defenders. She paired that burst with a strong hesitation move that kept defenders guessing and allowed her to get downhill. The lefty guard showed good vision and awareness as she saw the floor well and made plays for teammates when help defenders stepped up. Defensively, she competed with intensity and effort on every possession. One of her best finishes came when she attacked the paint and converted a tough scoop shot through traffic. Reah’s speed, toughness, and ability to impact the game on both ends made her a standout performer.

(cover photo) made a strong impression on the state stage, showcasing speed, maturity, and a level of control that stood out — especially for an eighth grader. She handled the ball well, controlled the pace of the game, and consistently made plays that shifted momentum. Defensively, she set the tone early, applying pressure and disrupting the opposing team’s rhythm. Her activity on that end created opportunities and impacted the flow of the game. Long viewed as a promising middle school prospect, Saunders is now well on her way to something more. As she prepares to enter high school after the summer, the “middle school” label no longer defines her — her game does. She is clearly on the rise and already showing the tools of a high-level guard heading into the grassroots season and beyond.

put in a solid performance as her team went down fighting. Saunders controlled the pace on the offensive side of the ball and her speed and quickness were the focal points of the opposition. She got to the rim a few times and showed an ability to connect on the perimeter when the defense gave her space. Saunders still repeatedly penetrated and repeatedly drew the double team. She had some nice assists and facilitated numerous quality looks for her teammates. On defense she was disruptive and forced a 10 second count and a change of strategy to deal with her pressure on the ball. Saunders played well in her second trip to the final four and she still has four more opportunities to return- the talented guard is just an 8th grader.
