Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA will come to take the floor while still being uncommitted and that’s okay. It’s still early for the 2028 Class and Wright has D1 level options at this point in her journey. She has proven over the last two years that she is a Top 10 2028 throughout Iowa as a PG. The last year Wright had to shoot a little more than what she is used to but now that her Mount Vernon team has graduated that older PG – I expect Wright to take over that position permanently. She will still be looking to shoot it but now it’ll just be from a different position. She will also have to bring the rock down the floor and launch their offense but that’s not anything new to a prospect with this type of experience. This 2026 IA Expo Showcase is going to match several D1 players against each other and some of those players are in this very article.

Another top ranking Guard out of Iowa, that will be competing out of the state on Stealth GUAA this Spring is Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA . Wright holds multiple D1 offers at this time with a lot of interest coming in as she steps into her Junior year at Mount Vernon. We are going to get to really see how well Wright can play over the next 2 years. She is going to have a lot of the workload now that the Franck sisters have graduated and she is ready to show everyone watching that she is ready for that challenge. Wright has been very good over her first two years at the Varsity level but I think there is still some un-tapped potential here. She might be able to hit a different level moving forward but we will just have to wait and see.

Decision-Making

Each time we have watched Savanna Wright perform over the year’s she has been someone that her team can look to in big moments to make the right decisions. When the clock is dwindling down and all the pressure is on the team on offense to make a play, that’s when Wright steps in and makes sure that she sets up her teammates for success in one way or another. Wright might not always show up as the biggest scoring threat as a PG but that’s okay. The way that she can make plays for others is going to get her a D1 scholarship at the end of the day and really what more can you ask for?

Savanna Wright will be competing at the college level when she gets to that point in a few years. Over the last two seasons she has solidified herself as one of the top PG’s in the 2028 Class and really throughout the state of Iowa as a whole. This is your PG #1. Someone that you can give the ball to and trust that they are going to make the correct choices coming down the court. She is also talented enough on offense to be her team’s consistent scoring threat. This is something she hasn’t had to do in high school up until now so it’ll be fun to watch the numbers she puts up this Winter and how many more college programs reach out once they truly understand what they are getting with Wright as a recruit.

We haven’t seen too much out of Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA out of Iowa this AAU season and that is because she is now competing with Mokan Girls Hoops EYBL but trust me, she is doing just fine and holding her own per usual. Wright is that compete PG, that has that chip on her shoulder mentality. She is a ridiculously hard worker within this craft, always trying to improve on her flaws whenever possible. Wright had D1 offers prior to this AAU move this Spring and that hasn’t slowed down. She has been able to transition programs effortlessly, showing that she can be a systematic PG wherever she goes. This is a very talented hooper to round out our Top Five in this Update. If she continues to do her thing at this same rate moving forward, she will be killing it at the next level before we know it!

Jumping up to the #5 spot in this Update is PG – Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA of Mount Vernon High School. Wright showed up all we needed to see to end this high school season at the State Tournament. She led her team from the front, either as their leading scoring threat or creating threat at the PG position. She got to every spot she wanted offensively, always giving herself a clean attempt in one way or another down the stretch. Defensively, she stood out as someone that is going to make you work. She doesn’t slack on that side of the ball and that shows. All in all, this is another D1 prospect. Just like everyone on this Top Five list. If she works on her weaknesses as she simultaneously sharpens her strengths, she is going to be a leader to watch at the collegiate level one day.

Mount Vernon and Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA were good all season long, which led them to an appearance at the 3A State Tournament in DSM this last week. Wright, the future D1 PG, strung together a productive week has a whole. She played her PG really well as a creator, scorer, and defender, ultimately leading to a lot of success on the hardwood. Mount Vernon might of fallen short of their goal of winning another 3A State Title but they will be back and Wright will be their unquestionable leader moving into the near future with the Mustangs. She is a game changer on and off of the ball and that’s going to be on full display in her contests to come.

Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA is a poised, crafty point guard who always seems to be in control of the game. Her footwork on the pickup is solid, she handles the ball at an elite level, and she just knows how to make winning plays. She flashed a number of smooth moves on Saturday to create her own shot — my favorite being a cross-jab into a same foot finish with her left hand. Skillset aside, Wright put the Mustangs on her back late in the fourth. She hit a lob shot to push Mount Vernon’s lead to five, then proceeded to get steals on back-to-back Mid-Prairie possessions to secure the win. Her intuition and fearlessness were crucial to get Mount Vernon over the line. Finishing with a game-high 26 points, Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA is the real deal.

It’s been a good season so far for Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA and that should continue into this weekend when Mount Vernon takes on another high ranking opponent in Waverly-Shell Rock High School. Wright is a gamer. Always has been. Someone that gets busy at the PG spot as a top notch producer for those around her. The best way to describe Wright is that she makes everyone else around her better when she is on the floor and that’s all you can really ask for from a coaching perspective so it’s always fun to watch her compete. She plays the game the right way and I would expect nothing less this weekend in their highly anticipated matchup.

Savanna Wright Savanna Wright 5'5" | PG Mount Vernon | 2028 State IA is a Top PG out of this 2028 Class in Iowa. Wright is an orchestrator. She sets up her teammates where they should be on the floor when things break down, she can control game tempo, and she is pretty skilled individually off the attack on offense. Defensively, she is pest-y to say the least. She sticks to her matchup with high intent and she usually creates some chaos in the steals department because of that. Wright has that Division-1 talent. She has started off this Winter with some awesome showings and hopefully that can continue moving into the thick of the season when we come back from Winter break.
