There are freshmen across the state who are looking to make an impact immediately for their teams, and they’ve already been showing off why they can do so. Let’s take a look at some freshmen that I think are flying under the radar.
Kennedy Moore is a crafty guard who knows how to fill in the right role for her team. She moves well with the ball attacking the gaps and finding the open lanes. She moves well without the ball, too, knowing how to set herself up for an open shot, or she shifts the defense opening up the floor for her teammates. Her ability to play on the other side of the court is an asset, too, being able to keep up with all speeds of guards keeping them in front of her as she protects the basket.
Sara Kate Carr is an athletic and dynamic guard who can play on all levels of the court on both ends. She can block shots as she hustles back on defense preventing fast breaks, and she can get up high on her shot elevating over her opponents to score some points. She jumps the passing lanes grabbing steals and pushes them the other direction, and she has a nice shot from around the arc. She will certainly be able to handle more and more responsibilities in her high school career.
Courtney Ashford is another ball handler who runs the floor well already pushing the tempo for her team last year finishing the season with a state championship. Her ability to set herself up as a shooting guard is an asset, too, as she can show off her range knocking down her shot from deep. She plays full games with the same composure no matter what kind of competition she is seeing, and she does well on the other end knowing how to strip the ball from her opponents taking these steals the other direction for two points.
Tait Harvey is already known as a sharp shooter from deep, and she will certainly be adding to a high powered offense with AC Reynolds. She can attack the basket being aggressive with her ball handling not backing down from contact. She knows how to create her own space to put up her shot, and she can do so from all over the court. She reads her opponents well knowing how to make the right pass to her teammates for their own points.
