Kendall ClattThat was the zenith of what was a wild back-and-forth affair between the Indians and Wildcats.
It was Clatt’s Indianola squad that was in control through the first half, they took a 31-23 lead into the break. But Carlisle junior Molly Hoekstra went turbo, and spurred a 16-0 Wildcats run that bridged the third and fourth quarters.
When the dust settled, Carlisle went from being down 42-30, to up 46-42.
But the Indians fought back, and with 13.1 seconds left the game was tied at 56. That’s when Carlisle junior Delaney Schnathorst sank a go-ahead free-throw.
During a timeout, Indianola coach Jeff Janssen drew up a play to get his sharpshooting sophomore the ball in the corner. It worked. Clatt, who was showcasing a beautiful jumper all night to that point, calmly sank the corner 3 to beat the buzzer.
Indianola was led by Clatt’s 24 points and improves to 4-3 with the win; it plays at Grinnell tonight ahead of Winter Break. Carlisle was led by Hoekstra’s 27 points and drops to 4-5 on the season.

The Prospects
Molly Hoekstra, 5’11 G/F, 2020 (Carlisle)
Clatt gets the headlines, but this Carlisle junior was the best player on the floor tonight. PGHIA’s 48th-ranked 2020 prospect, she may be due for a bump in the next installment. Hoeskstra is the ultimate versatile threat; with great size she’s able to body smaller girls down low, but also has blow-by ability and a really nice stroke on her jumper. She plays with fluidity and confidence, she’s got that “it” factor. We recently caught up with the talented wing for a prospect update, she mentioned D2 and D3 interest was starting up for hoops.
Kendall Clatt, 5’10 SG, 2021 (Indianola)
Here’s a star in the making for Indianola. She came into the game leading the team in scoring with just over 11 points per game, and went off for 24 in this one. She’s got one of the finer strokes we’ve seen in a while, boys or girls, and a beautiful rotation on her long-ball. It’s clear that Clatt spends a lot of time making her shot precise, and that’s just what it was tonight — she canned six of her eight 3 attempts. And, of course, the clutch gene is something she possesses.
Lauren Blake, 5’10 G, 2022 (Indianola)
Just a freshman, this tall, lengthy and agile guard plays well above her years. The daughter of former MLB player Casey Blake, Lauren certainly has the athletic gene. She dropped 16 points in the win, and did so while showing off an array of offensive skill-sets. She’s got a nice stroke on her jumper and we particularly liked her mid-range floater off the bounce. Defensively, she’s rangy and has good hands. This is one of the best freshman hoopers in Iowa.
Mara Bishop, 5’7 PG, 2022 (Indianola)
Another freshman, Bishop was running the show all night for the Indians, and was doing so effectively. She’s got a nice handle, especially for being so young, and some blow-by ability; she did well to recognize open lanes and get to the rim. Bishop is a fundamental guard with some decent size. The future looks bright for her, and obviously, for Indianola, too.
Kennedy Preston, 5’6 PG, 2020 (Carlisle)
The junior point guard is not flashy but gets to her spots and gets done what needs to get done within the offense. She’s always got her head up looking for the best pass, and is quick enough to get by her defender. She’s a gritty, hustle player who is a key piece to this Carlisle squad.
Delaney Schnathorst, 5’6 G, 2020 (Carlisle)
This is the muscle for the Wildcats. The junior guard was aggressive and tough all night, and rebounds very well for her size. She also finished well around the rim. If there’s a loose ball, Schnathorst is going to be on the ground. What an asset for the Wildcats.
Sydney Berg, 5’10 SF, 2021 (Carlsile)
The glue-girl for Carlisle, Berg is a defensive-type, but can score it too when need be. She’s scrappy and handsy on the defensive side of the ball, and is one of those players that always seems to be around the action.
