Continue ReadingAs we continue our wrap-up of the Iowa State Tournament, we are unveiling our evaluations for players in the junior class. Among all classes we have 139 total evaluations with 59 of those in the junior class. This isn’t an exhaustive list of everyone in the class at the event, but rather who played well or for extended minutes that we were able to get an eye on. This is Part II of IV.
Adrianna Katcher – 5’11 G – Center Point-Urbana
Katcher is a tall guard who is fluid with the ball and can make jumpers going either to the left or the right with the ball. Good defender who uses her length to swat shots and steal the ball. Best off of the drive when she gets to the rim or pulls up. Great court vision and willing passer. Committed to Southern Illinois – Carbondale.
Karlyn Snider – 5’4 G – West Marshall
Snider is a small lead guard who is really good on the drive. Isn’t afraid of initiating the contact on the drive. Needs to clean up the ball handling a little bit but is smart with the ball. The length of CPU really hurt her but she created some havoc on the defensive end of the ball.
Teresa Disney – 6’ C – West Marshall
Disney struggled a bit offensively as I think that the speed really made her uncomfortable. She’s a tall post who moves pretty well for her size and has a soft touch. Rebounder who corrals every ball that comes down her way. Good instincts defensively allows her to block shots with her long arms.
Ellie Foster – 5’10 PG – Dike-New Hartford
Foster is a really good lead guard for this Dike-New Hartford team. She’s a playmaker with the ability to pass and shoot at a high level. Ability to create space on her own and rip off a few shots in a row. Great motor with the ability to finish at the rim. A very dynamic guard. Committed to UW-Green Bay.
Morgan Weber – 5’11 W – Dike-New Hartford
Weber is a tough wing who plays like a forward. She has the ability to step out and hit the jumper but does most of her work on the boards and on defense. Great frame and is very strong when going up for the ball. Has the ability to shoot the ball well but needs to work on her handling. Can sneakily score 12-15 points a game.
Katie Knock – 5’10 W – Dike-New Hartford
Knock is a shooter that just hasn’t shot the ball well when I am watching. Fairly athletic but has really long arms and plays disruptive defense. Solid defender but isn’t one that is going to play lockdown defense on the opposing team’s best player.
Nicole McDermott – 5’5 G – Cascade
McDermott is wired to score. She isn’t a shooter but more of a scorer. Turns the corner well and stays low to the ground on her drive. Displays a nice floater in the lane and gets herself to the line. Takes care of the ball and her quick hands allow her to grab a few steals a game.
Skylar Dolphin – 5’4 G – Cascade
Dolphin is similar to McDermott with the way that she plays but isn’t as potent of a scoring threat and a bit more of a shooter. Really like how well she moves off of the ball but still needs a little refinement in her game.
Jordan Simon – 5’10 F – Cascade
Simon is a thin and lanky post player who plays as a stretch four. She can shoot it a little bit but isn’t overly impressive at a skill. Solid shot blocker and can get her hands on the ball on defense. Active on both ends, just isn’t a huge offensive threat right now.
Abby Welter – 5’8 G – Cascade
Welter is someone who likes to shoot the ball but needs to know when to reign it in and get others involved. It was tough for her this week because all of the attention was on the other players. She’s someone that needs to become a bit more efficient on offense but the intangibles and skills are there. Should be a big summer for her.
Caitlin Clark – 5’11 G – Dowling Catholic
Clark is an offensive threat once she steps across the half court stripe. She has the potential to hit shots that you just don’t see anyone else hit. There are times I would like her to take a step back and get others involved. I also want to see her “want” to defend an entire game. One of the top prospects in the nation because she is fluid with the ball and can flat score.
Grace Gaber – 5’10 F – Dowling Catholic
Gaber is a tall post who can shoot it from the corners really well. Pretty mobile and has the ability to get into good spots with the ball. Isn’t someone who is going to drive on you but has that ability. Lateral mobility would really help out her game a lot.
Maya McDermott – 5’5 PG – Johnston
McDermott is a lead guard who is feisty and really quick. She does a good job of using her body movements to throw her defender off. She can get to the rim but also shoot it really well from deep. Love the aggressiveness in her game but I think at times she does too much. Running is her game but I think she could be better slowing it down just a touch. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Kendall Nead – 5’11 W – Johnston
I saw Nead play really well in one game, and not so well in another. I think that is what you are getting with her right now as she is trying to find her role within a team of similar players. She is a good player and I think is going to be able to stay on the wing. Versatile and a solid defender against players who aren’t overly quick. Really liked the potential.
Maddie Mock – 6’ F – Johnston
Mock is a really solid post for Johnston but she is also a really good playmaker for others. She has the ability to score in the post but also step out and shoot it. Great frame has her in between positions right now, but she oozes with skill and should be really good at the next level. Committed to South Dakota State.
