But many of the players who make such teams are seniors, and seniors graduate. Let’s wrap up our look at the Class 3A players in Colorado who were voted to the CHSAA all-state team last winter and are returning to their teams’ rosters in 2019-20.
HONORABLE MENTION
Sara Geddes, 2020, 6-0, C, Delta
The six-footer established herself last season as the Panthers’ most dominant player last winter. She averaged 10.7 points and 6.8 rebounds, including 3.6 a night at the offensive end. Defensively, she led the team with 2.6 steals a game.
Jadalise Gomez, 2022, 5-4, G, Riverdale Ridge
Riverdale Ridge is the new team in town but got off to a great start in 2018-19 with players like Gomez leading the way. The Ravens went 14-8 while spreading the ball around effectively. It was Gomez, however, who led the team in scoring with 11.8 points per game as a freshman. Fellow 2022 graduate Megan Drews and 2021 Carly Villegas also had excellent seasons last winter.
Lilly Johnson, 2020, 5-8, G/F, Englewood
Johnson was just fractions of a point away from averaging a double-double last winter, putting up 9.7 points and 11.5 rebounds a night. She also averaged 2.1 steals and blocked nearly a shot and a half per game as a junior. How Johnson follows that up will be interesting to see.
Lilly Lavier, 2020, 5-5, G, Alamosa
Alamosa was a Great 8 team in 2019-20 and Lavier was a primary reason why. She averaged 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and an incredible 4.5 steals per game. Teammate Emily Lavier was also named all-conference in the Intermountain League, so the Mean Moose has a nice one-tow punch returning.
Amanda Licht, 2022, 5-7, G, Kent Denver
Licht certainly wasn’t shy in making her freshman debut with Kent Denver last season. Quite the contrary, in fact, as she was quite aggressive both on offense and on defense, and played at a very high pace. Licht led the Sun Devils in scoring with 13.5 points a game, and also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.3 steals.
Addie Randel, 2020, 5-3, PG, Eaton
Perhaps more of a soccer player at this point, Addie still had quite an impact for the Eaton basketball team on its way to a 25-2 season. Undersized but scrappy and fast, Randel uses her speed to separate from defenders on the fast break and has the quickness to get her shot off around the rim in most cases. As a junior, she averaged 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 steals.
Stephanie Shultz, 2021, 5-4, PG/SG, Lutheran
Small but springy, Shultz knows how to finish against taller players and led Luthern in scoring with 15.4 points a night as a sophomore. She also averaged 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.6 steals. Already with a knack for scoring, if she continues to grow or develop as a long-range shooter, or both, Shultz will become an even bigger problem for opposing defenses.
Izzy Swanson, 2021, Liberty Common
Sure, she scored eight points a game. But Swanson easily impacted the game as much with her rebounding as she did with her scoring, averaging 7.7 boards as a sophomore last winter. Back to the scoring for a second, Swanson did put up double figures in eight games last season including a 30-point outburst (14 for 20 shooting) against Frontier Academy.
