Byrnes is is a quiet player that has great size and length already as a first-year prep player. She stands at 6-foot-1, making her a threat on both ends on the floor. Young and continuing to develop her craft at the offensive end, she will make some noise. One of her skills that will create some buzz is that Byrnes is athletic for a big, and can dribble in transition well enough to relieve the pressure of the defense.
“For any player at any grade level to just go out and play…let the game come to you is extremely valuable for a team. To count on those type of players being consistent in their approach provides confidence to every teammate.” Said Jim French
Byrnes is averaging 5.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds a game as a freshman. She has good court awareness which puts her in a position to be efficient on the floor. Byrnes is a player that should start popping up on some collegiate-level programs’ radar has she continues to improve.
Byrnes makes her present known in the post with her ability and timing while blocking shots, and boxing out for rebounds. Byrnes also does a great job playing the passing lanes and creating turnovers on defense. Amanda Byrnes leads her team in blocks, and is second when it comes to rebounding behind sophomore Payton Gagon.
It will be exciting to see her development and to watch Byrnes play as she continues to adjust to the high school level.
Here is what Amanda’s coach had to say about his promising young player “Amanda’s strengths include an ability to rebound on both ends of the floor, block or alter shots, along with her ability to sprint the floor to finish at the hoop. She can step outside if we need a jumper and is consistent from the foul line! She is working hard each day on her footwork and post finish moves to give her more weapons on the blocks. Amanda is extremely coachable and focused on simply getting better.”- Coach Jim French
