Let’s take a look at some of the 1,000-point scorers who are currently playing high school ball in Colorado.
If you missed them, check out Part 1 and Part 2 of this series.
Kendra Parra, 2020, 5-5, G, Del Norte
The only junior on last year’s CHSAA 2A All-State first team, Parra has been a proven scorer since she arrived in high school and is on the verge of passing 1,700 points for her career while averaging 21 points per game as a senior. Small-school stigma be damned, this kid can plain shoot the basketball whether that be off the dribble, coming off a screen, from the corner, in the midrange, wherever. She is shooting 37 percent (17 for 46) from long range as a senior and has made 33 percent (130 for 397) of the 3-pointers she has taken in her career.
Josephine Howery
Josephine Howery, 2020, 5-9, G, St. Mary’s
* Colorado School of Mines commit
Currently fourth in Colorado with a scoring average of 22.3 points per game, Howery leads a St. Mary’s squad that appears to be on its way to a third straight 3A state championship. The senior passed 1,000 points as a junior and is closing in on 1,500 in high school before she heads off to Colorado School of Mines to continue her basketball career at the next level.
Jerika Moore, 2020, 5-7, G, Canon City
* Bethany College commit
Moore has been a talented scoring combo guard for some time now and reached her 1,000th point in just 68 games according to MaxPreps.com. That’s a career scoring average of 14.8 points at the varsity level for the Bethany College signee. Moore passed over the 1,000-point threshold during a 51-40 win over Mesa Ridge on Jan. 25 in which she finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Three quarters of the way through her fourth and final varsity season, Moore is averaging 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game and has hit 40 long balls.
Liberty Line
Liberty Line, 2021, 5-7, G, Ponderosa
Still just a junior, Line has already passed 1,000 points with a good chunk of her third varsity season left to play. Currently averaging 17.1 points a night, Line has done a lot of her scoring from long range. She has made 39 percent (53 for 135) of her 3-point shots through January. Line is also averaging 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.6 steals.
Jana Van Gytenbeek, 2020, 5-7, G, Cherry Creek
* Stanford University commit
Like several others on this list, Van Gytenbeek blew past the 1,000-point mark a long time ago. During a 85-34 win over Dakota Ridge on Jan. 27, Van Gytenbeek scored 24 points to pass 1,500 for her prep career. The senior point guard is averaging 17 points, 7.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game as a senior.
With a 3-ball in the third quarter of tonight’s game against Dakota Ridge, Cherry Creek’s @vangytenbeek just passed 1,500 career points! Congrats to the pass-first PG who’ll also end up top 10 all-time in Colorado in assists. #copreps @CHSAA @cchswbball @girlsbballco @StanfordWBB pic.twitter.com/QMxibm0H5P
