First team
Bailey Davis (Southwest Edgecombe guard, 2020)
Davis was one of the top three point shooters in Eastern North Carolina this season. The Cougars senior guard made 41 triples and led the team in scoring at 13 points per game. Outside shooting is her biggest strength, but she also does well in the midrange game and getting to the basket. Davis played big in Southwest Edgecombe’s biggest games is a career 1,000 point scorer for the Cougars.
Jada Battle (Southwest Edgecombe guard, 2021)
Battle was Southwest Edgecombe’s best all-around player this season and was the Cougars second leading scorer at 12.6 points per game. She averaged four rebounds per game and led the team with 3.9 assists and three steals per contest. Battle brings a lot of energy and toughness to Southwest Edgecombe basketball on both ends of the floor. She’ll be counted on even more next season as the Cougars look to improve on a 16-win 2019-20 season.
Shakira Tillery (North Edgecombe guard, 2021)
Tillery scored in bunches for North Edgecombe and led the team to eight wins this past season. The junior guard played a lot of big minutes and the Warriors were successful with her on the floor. She’ll be a great returning piece for the Warriors along with a lot more key 2022 and 2023 prospects. They’ll be a team to watch in Eastern NC next season.
Jer’lisah Pridgen (Southwest Edgecombe guard, 2023)
Pridgen is only a freshman, but she made an instant impact for Southwest Edgecombe in her first season on the team. She was extremely efficient shooting the ball for the Cougars and made her mark in transition offense and defense. Shooting 54% from the field and 45% from downtown is impressive and her role is going to increase next year with the graduation of Davis.
Alyssa Brake (Tarboro guard, 2020)
Brake is another excellent outside shooter in Edgecombe County and led Tarboro to a very successful season. The Vikings senior guard brought energy and effort defensively and made a lot of timely three pointers for her team. She’ll be a big loss for Tarboro, but the Vikings will have a really good returning cast for next year as they look to compete in one of the toughest 1-A conferences in the state: the Coastal Plains Conference.
Second team
Makayla Hudson (North Edgecombe forward, 2022)
Alonee Smallwood (Southwest Edgecombe forward, 2021)
Adriane McKinney (Southwest Edgecombe forward, 2020)
Jamia Guilford (Tarboro forward, 2022)
Nala Bowen (North Edgecombe guard, 2023)
