Previous content has been primarily on the guards and wings, but I will now shift the focus onto some of the forwards and posts from the freshman class.
As of now, the 4’s and 5’s do not have nearly the same depth of talent as there is across the point guard, shooting guard and small forward positions. A part of that is size comes in waves, class by class and there is also the possibility that some posts are still developing and/or yet to be identified.
The Players:
2023 6″0 F Corrie McClaughin (Mill Brook HS) – The potential diamond of Brook’s 2023 class. McClaughin’s developing skills and outstanding length and athleticism is something we do not see every year in EE Smith. Her best basketball is ahead of her and from an evaluation standpoint, I understand it is a step by step process, but the excitment surrounding her is real and she has the humility and work ethic to live up to her potential.
2023 5’9 G/F Anaya Teague (Trinity Christian HS) – A player that dealt with injuries in her freshman season before being cleared to play, but Teague is still worth college coaches tracking. She has a strong frame to absorb contact and she has some inside-out potential with her 5″9 range. She has potenial upside and will be a player to to look out for in the coming years.
2023 5’9 G/F Keshiana Murphy (E.E. Smith HS) – A young wing player put together a really solid 9th grade season. Murphy a solid player who can stretch the floor with her shooting ability from the outside.. She has the height and size to become a solid shooting guard. How she continues to develop with her skills on the court will determine her level as a college prospect.
2023 5’11 G/F Reychel Douglas Reychel Douglas 6'0" | SG Millbrook | 2023 State #41 Nation NC (Mill Brook HS) – A big presence on the court for Mill Brook with a developing skill set and feel for the game. Douglas has natural abilities and good size overall as a guard, but she is still in the early stages of the player she can eventually become. She has some high major Division 1 schools that are keeping an eye on her, but her process will be step by step and one thing she has the talent that can take her a long way. Just a freshman and her knowledge of the game has her playing big time minutes on her varsity team.
One more name to track:
2023 (5’11 PF ) Isral Crawford (Villiage Christian Academy) – Crawford has tremendous upsize, at 5’11 the Power Forward gives a big presence in the middle for Villiage. She is able to be a force inside with her tough stellar in the paint defense. She has a solid rebounder and able to score on the block with consistency. As she continues develop and learn she will definitely grow into a future college prospect at the next level.
