Some have emerged through excellent freshman campaigns while others are popping up at smaller schools that receive less exposure. Many of them probably should have already been in the rankings to begin with.
Here are five 2023’s who recently entered the PGH Colorado watch list, and where they’re at having just completed their first high school seasons.
Charlotte Brennan Charlotte Brennan 5'6" | CG Mead | 2023 State CO , 5-5, CG, Mead
The Mavericks are a young team and have a bright future thanks you an up-and-coming roster that includes several underclassman contributors like Brennan. At 5-foot-5, Brenna is capable of playing either guard position and is a solid defender. As a freshman, she averaged 3.4 points, 1.8 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals while playing in all 25 of the Mavericks’ games.
Bree Bunting Bree Bunting 5'8" | CG Platte Valley | 2023 State CO , 5-8, PG, Platte Valley
A player who moves well off the ball for someone her age, Bunting knows what to do with it when she gets it in the paint. Bunting also has a non-stop motor and runs the floor well, and should help what is already a good Platte Valley team continue to grow into something special. She averaged 9.5 points, which was third on the team, 5.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.9 assists over the course of her freshman season with the Broncos.
Ramiyah Byrd Ramiyah Byrd 6'1" | SF SPIRE Institute And Academy | 2023 State CO , 5-11, F, James Irwin
Named a captain as just a freshman, Byrd showed why with her play on the court this winter. Averaging 14.2 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.8 steals, 5.5 blocks and 2.9 assists, Byrd was the focal point of just about everything the Jaguars. Byrd is a versatile and athletic player who can do a bit of everything on the hardwood and will certainly be a player to watch over the next several seasons.
Kate Davis Kate Davis 5'9" | SF Fossil Ridge | 2023 State CO , 5-9, PF, Fossil Ridge
Davis spent the season on junior varsity, but that’s much of a knock on a young player who’s in one of the top programs in the state. The Sabercats reached the Great 8 of the Class 5A state tournament this winter and after graduating their top six scorers, expect Davis to be among the young players asked to step into bigger roles next season.
Gemma Gibbs Gemma Gibbs 5'4" | PG Legend | 2023 State CO , 5-4, PG, Legend
Gibbs made her way into 22 of Legend’s 24 games this season and the freshman averaged 2.8 points and a steal per contest. Undersized but tough, Gibbs is a solid shooter who can handle the ball. In her top scoring output of the season, Gibbs scored 13 points against Gateway and went 3 for 7 from 3-point range with three steals at the defensive end.
