It is hard sometimes to separate players into teams when making these selections and there are always players that could have easily been moved up or down or some that miss out completely but all these players are deserving after the year they had both individually and in contributing to the success of their respective teams. They all should be applauded for the hard work they have put in and congratulated on their selection.
Jeriel Nesbitt- Senior- Andrews High School/Fayetteville State University
When doing All whatever teams there are always players that could have easily been included on the teams and some players that could have easily been on the team above where they were selected and Jeriel is definitely the latter and has my vote as a solid 1st team selection. Her credentials and accomplishments and just her desire to play the game and do it at a high level are just a few reasons she could have easily been on the 1st team. She is one of those players that are blessed with athletic ability and build that makes them appear to be made to play the game of basketball. She used her natural ability and hard work to guide her team to 3 conference championships in her four years as team captain and in her senior year her stats match any of the players in the area with 14.5 points, 9 rebounds,3 assists and 3 steals a game. Her honors include a four-time All-Conference selection and All-District. She had the type of high school career that we all enter high school hoping we have and her school will miss her talent but more importantly her leadership as she now takes her multiple talents to Fayetteville University where she will continue to excel and have a positive impact on that program.
Hailey Blackwell- Junior- Greensboro Day School
Every successful team has to have a point guard that not only has the basketball skills but also the basketball IQ and leadership to guide her team to success. Hailey has all these attributes and more and she has used those to help turn around her team and that led to a 15 game winning difference from one year to the next and a place in the state championship game. She is very athletic and uses that to her advantage and makes her one of the best point guards in the area and her stats prove her value to her team with 9 points, 4 assists and 4 steals a game. Her honors include All-Conference and 4A All-State and she is poised to lead her team as a senior and rest assured she will be a sought after player at the next level.
Thalia Carter- Senior- Northwest Guilford High School
The leader of one of the top programs in the area is an important position but thanks to her basketball abilities and work ethic she has been able to handle this job and be successful. She excels offensively in the open court either finishing herself or finding open teammates she is solid. The ability to shoot the ball well and being an accomplished ball handler helps her lead a team that competes regularly in the state playoffs and this year shared the conference championship. What makes raises her stock is her defensive work where she spearheaded and led her team’s defensive scheme and managed to average 2.5 steals per game. Honors include All-District and All-Conference for a point guard that knows how to win and has won a lot of games in her high school career.
Jayla Harris- Senior- Northern Guilford High School
As a senior leader for the other powerhouse program in the area she has been part of a winning culture and one that has produced many college basketball players. Being a senior leader she used her hard work and skills to lead her team to another 20 plus win season a share of the conference championship and into the state playoffs. Her coaches and teammates appreciated her hard nose high energy never back down attitude and she demanded that from all her younger teammates. She was able to average over 10 points and 5 rebounds a game but her contributions extended far past her stats. Her honors include All-Conference and All-District as she cements her place in the school’s winning tradition and reputation of creating winning teams and players.
Diamond Monroe- Junior- Ragsdale High School/Elon College
As a starter and major contributor on a team that produced a 20 plus win season a share of the conference championship and into the state playoffs she has more than earned her spot on this list. She is a bonafide 3 point shooting threat that has to be guarded which she uses to her advantage to get to the basket and finish strong at the rim. All these talents led her to average 12.5 points per game on a team that had a few offensive weapons. Her most telling attribute was her ability to work within the team’s framework for the success of the team and team’s goals, on a team which may promote more of a one player mentality she could have blossomed with higher individual numbers as she is just that talented. Her honors include All-Conference and All-District and she has already committed to Elon University where she will use her talents to be a successful college player.
