In an area as rich as the Triad/Guilford County area and be one of the 15 best players is an honor they all should be proud of as we are proud of them and their accomplishments.
Jada Artis- Senior- Reidsville High School/William Peace University
Hard to imagine the impact of a player that stands just 5’3” but when the player has the skills and the fight and the determination to be a great player they will not be denied and that is the type of player Jada is. She is one of those players that is involved in every play, one that is always there in the action making the play or influencing the play. There is no area of the game that she did not impact for her team as she led her team to an 18-6 record and into the state playoffs while amassing a 15 point, 6 assist, 3 rebound and 2 steals per game average. This led to a spot on the All-Conference and All-District teams which were well deserved. Her talents and ability did not go unnoticed by colleges and next year she will be having the same type of impact on the game as a member of the William Peace University women’s basketball team.
Quinzia Fulmore- Junior – Dudley High School
Sometimes in the game of basketball at the high school and middle school level, we see players that hit a growth spurt that happens unexpectedly and it takes that player some time to get used to the height and how to use it and be comfortable with it and that is what we have with Quinzia. She is a testament to hard work and she has continued to improve each year as she plays her way into her 6’3” frame. This year she showed the most promise she has shown and her hard work is paying off to the tune of 14 points, 12 rebounds to go along with 3 steals and an astonishing 3 blocks a game. She is becoming more and more comfortable in the post with great hands and her footwork is steadily improving, add to that a nice mid-range shot and her ability to run the floor in transition and finish, she is on her way to being one of the special ones. On the defensive end she has learned to dominant the painted area and blocks shot with great timing and frequency and is a great rebounder. With her anchoring the middle her team finished with 20 wins and regular and tournament conference championships and a spot in the state playoffs where she averaged 26 points and 19.5 rebounds in each game. Her honors include All-Conference along with her All-Area selection. With another offseason to improve and get stronger there is no reason she will not simply dominate the area and state next year and will have a lot of Division 1 schools vying for her service after high school.
Megan Harkey- Senior- Northwest Guilford High School/Xavier University
As the tallest player in the area and one of the tallest in the state at 6’6” Megan used her size to simply rule the painted area. Playing for a team that has produced many talented bigs and college players she is sound fundamentally with room to grow into a solid post player. Her size and ability meant she dominated the post and ruled the paint with her length blocking 3 shots per game but altering so many more as offensive players had to try to shoot over the top of her long arms and height. She used her dominant post present to help her team to a 20 plus win season a co conference championship and into the state playoffs. Her offensive scoring skills have improved each year and she was able to average 7 points and 7 rebounds per game on a team with many other offensive weapons. As she continues to learn to be effective in the post on the offensive end along with her defensive skills she is going to be a very effective post player at the next level. She was named on the All-District team and will ply her talent at Xavier University next season.
Tiir Nyok- Junior- Southwest Guilford High School
This player is one of the most athletic in the area if not in the state. Her length as 5”10” playing the guard spot makes her a force on the perimeter as she is quick enough to defend smaller guards and also has the size and athleticism to defend bigger players making her a super versatile player. She runs the floor extremely well and finishes at the rim and possesses the ability to get to the hole in the half-court as well as an ever-improving jumper. She has made herself into an efficient offensive player to the tune of 15 points a game average. Her speed and instincts make her an elite defender capable of causing havoc in a full or half-court press or jumping passing lanes in the half-court, she is one of those defenders you want to know where she is before you let go of a pass. These skills allowed her to average 6 rebounds and a solid 4 steals a game in leading her team to a spot in the state playoffs. She was named to the All-District team as well as the All-Area recognition. She is going to be a player to watch next year and I am sure she has already caught the eye of some college coaches but she will add to that number as she finishes her high school career next season.
Asia Pearley- Senior- Northeast Guilford High School
To be the focal point of a team that is below .500 and having all the opposing teams trying to limit or stop you and to still manage to be productive takes a special player. Asia is that type of player she is an athletic 6’0” forward with silky smooth skills whether on the offensive end where she excels scoring from multiple spots on the floor or on the defensive end where her length and pure athleticism allows her to influence the game. When you are a virtual walking double-double, 18 points, 10 rebounds a game, even when the other team is gearing up to stop you speaks volume to your ability and basketball IQ. Making her more difficult to guard is the fact she is one of those crafty left-handers that has a smooth touch from range and can finish around the rim. Her skills have improved each year and that is evident with the strong senior year she was able to produce with led to her being named Co-POY in her conference.
Kennedy Powell- Sophomore- High Point Christian Academy
Very rarely does a team’s success rely so heavily on a player that is only just a sophomore but that is the case when the player is Kennedy, so much so she was named team captain. What makes you sit up and take notice of her is her amazing offensive talents. She can score from anywhere in the post, with either hand, mid-range, long-range, on the break, in transition and even coming off screens her scoring ability is just mindblowing for a player that’s only a sophomore. The stats more than back this up as a sophomore she has already scored 1000 points and this season she had 3 games of 30 points or more on her way to averaging a double-double in conference play OMG. And to show her well-rounded skills she has also already grabbed 725 rebounds in her two-year career just phenom numbers. As well as All-Area honors she was also named on the NCISAA 3A All-State team. She can only get better as she matures and gets stronger and next season it’s just hard to imagine what kind of numbers she is going to amass with another year of playing experience and an offseason to prepare all I can say is if you get a chance to watch her play take that opportunity and just sit and marvel at her skills it’s a pleasure to watch.
