Early Look: 2A Guards to Know (2022)

<span style="font-weight: 400">As players and teams hope to get back on the court this summer, several players have caught our eye in recent months in the 2022 class that are poised for a big junior season in 2020-21. Among them are all-state selections Sterling point guard [player_tooltip player_id="124974" first="Kali" last="Briar"] and Uniontown guard [player_tooltip player_id="94002" first="Danielle" last="Howard"] among others.</span> <b>[player_tooltip player_id="124974" first="Kali" last="Briar"], 5’7, PG, 2022, Sterling </b> <span style="font-weight: 400">A good defender and physical player who can see the floor and make good moves off the ball defensively. She can rebound well for her age and size, can get out in transition and has the ability to run the show at the top of the key. Briar has good handles and looks to pass to her teammates and force turnovers and score when she has the chance. A player with a lot of potential and good control. </span> <b>[player_tooltip player_id="94002" first="Danielle" last="Howard"], 5’8, G, 2022, Uniontown </b> <span style="font-weight: 400">A combo scoring guard who can create with her dribble, score after the catch and even play some inside defensively if she needs to. A 2A third team All-State performer, Howard shows a lot of promise on both ends of the floor and has the ability to impact the game on nearly every level. She averaged a team high in all categories for her team with 16.7 points, 4.6 assists, 5 rebounds, 5.9 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. An up-and-down player who can score in transition, from 3-point range and is great at creating opportunities for her teammates. </span> <b>[player_tooltip player_id="125008" first="Makenna" last="Linden"], 5’5, G, 2022, Sterling</b> <span style="font-weight: 400">A tough and physical player who plays hard and puts herself in positions to make stops defensively. She is strong and has good speed and looks to move off the ball and score. Linden has a good shot and can make plays both on and off the ball. A high IQ player for Sterling who sacrifices herself and can do the little things well.   </span> <b>[player_tooltip player_id="94008" first="Catherine" last="Toerber"], 5’5, PG, 2022, Valley Heights</b> <span style="font-weight: 400">Toerber is a quick player and an interesting athlete who can create with her dribble and make plays defensively. She is good at anticipating passes and looks to jump out and tip them away and can score or come away with an assist in transition looks. She can finish with either hand around the glass and has control of the ball and can score from distance when she has an opening.</span> <b>Lauren Yaghmour, 5’5, G, 2022, St. Marys-Colgan</b> <span style="font-weight: 400">An underrated guard who brings a lot to the table. Yaghmour is a good defender and quick athlete who can stay with the ball and look to create mismatches and is good at switching out in staying in front of her opponent. She is also a solid scorer who can connect in several ways and looks to play unselfish basketball and get up the floor in transition.</span> &nbsp;
