The Erie High School senior with a lifelong dream of playing college basketball has watched her recruitment slow just like everyone else as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. But like many others, Gudino also hasn’t let the coronavirus inhibit her progression as a player.
That progress has included early April mornings dribbling in the garage, finding gym space to lift and get stronger in May, spending June working on footwork and shooting, and finally getting some game action in July and August with Colorado Basketball Club.
The idea here is simple: just keep working and you’ll be rewarded.
“It’s going pretty well,” Gudino said. “It’s just been a little bit different because I was planning on going to a lot of camps this year but a lot of them are cancelled because of COVID. I’ve been talking to a lot of coaches and I’m just looking for the right fit. It’s a little bit stressful but I’m just focused on becoming the best player I can be and letting the rest take care of itself.”
As a player who has been a standout on two of Colorado’s top Class 4A teams in Holy Family and now Erie, Gudino certainly has options already.
The senior (2021) has a preferred walk on offer from Cal Baptist University, as well as an offer from Cornell College and several RMAC schools. Regis University, Metropolitan State, the University of Wyoming, as well as several other Division I, RMAC and NAIA schools have shown interest.

Gudino is a hard-nosed and versatile 5-foot-8 guard who was voted first team all-conference in the Tri-Valley League as a junior this past season and is currently ranked No. 14 in the Prep Girls Hoops Colorado Class off 2021 player rankings. She averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 3.2 assists per game while helping lead Erie to the state quarterfinals.
Originally hoping to have a decision made by the start of her senior season, the global pandemic has obviously changed those plans and Gudino said she is continually searching for the right fit.
“A lot of college girls I’ve talked to said they instantly felt a connection with the coach and the players at a school and just felt comfortable there,” Gudino said. “They also mentioned that the campus felt right so I’m looking forward to virtual tours and stuff. I just want to be 100-percent sure that’s where I’ll be happy and where I’ll do my best.”
Gudino (3.0 GPA) added that she has been working on getting faster and toning up her body to be able to hold her own more, as well as improving her 3-point shooting. The results of that effort have shown throughout what has been a great grassroots season with a new club in Colorado Basketball Club in which the versatile guard has met the challenge of doing many things she hasn’t previously been asked to do.
Looking to follow in the footsteps of her older sister Serena Gudino, who played for Regis University, Gudino will play college basketball somewhere. Before she does, Gudino said she hopes to help the Erie Tigers win a state title when high school basketball returns in the spring.
“I’m expecting to win state,” Gudino said. “I truly believe with that team, we can definitely do it. The atmosphere got to us a little bit last year but I’m glad we experienced it so that next year, we can go 100 percent the whole time and not look back.”
