Several returning players are back for Clayton Ridge, which struggled to just three wins a season ago. Seniors Emilie Christianson and Savannah Meyer led the way, with Christianson scoring 135 points and Meyer 128. The two were also the top rebounders, with Meyer recording 205 boards and Christianson 157. They combined for another 41 blocks and 66 steals. Kayla Kelly, Molly Kann, Whitley Harber and Cagney Reimer also started several games.

After a big win over Marion, Clear Creek-Amana celebrated last season with an appearance at state. The Clippers went 19-5 overall, falling to North Scott in the quarterfinals at Wells Fargo Arena. Eight players are back including key starters [player_tooltip player_id="131256" first="Whitney" last="Traetow"], [player_tooltip player_id="129022" first="Calia" last="Clubb"] and Emily Sly. Clubb scored 214 points and led the team with 220 rebounds, adding 29 assists, 28 blocks and 27 steals. Traetow scored 152 points and Sly added 88. Traetow also made 25 three-pointers, shooting 33 percent from deep.

Not many teams could hang with Clear Lake last year, as the Lions held a 25-point margin of victory, scoring over 64 points a night. Along with capturing the North Central Conference title, Clear Lake reached the Class 3A semifinals before a loss to eventual champion Sioux City Heelan. While [player_tooltip player_id="134353" first="Sara" last="Faber"] has moved on, the return of post player Kaitlyn Vanderploeg and sharp-shooter [player_tooltip player_id="131168" first="Darby" last="Dodd"] presents a base to build around. Vanderploeg had 159 rebounds and shot 51 percent from the field, with Dodd knocking down a team-high 58 three-pointers.
