All signs point to a January start to the high school season with some type of abbreviated league play to follow. We will be featuring some prospects to watch leading up to the season. Here are the first five.
[player_tooltip player_id="137256" first="Destiny" last="Holmes"], 2022, Point Guard, City
Destiny is a tough and aggressive guard that can run the point and play off the ball. She can catch and shoot threes effectively and get to the rim and finish. She engages on defense where here competitiveness nature shines. She transferred from St. Frances to City College where she should get major minutes.
Ny’Shae Weaver, 2021 Forward, Coppin Academy
Ny’Shae is a superb athlete and is just scratching the surface of her potential. She had a good summer and put in the work to improve her offensive skill set. Look for her to take her six foot frame out on the wing more often as she has improved her shot and ball handling. She will still do most of her damage in her wheelhouse in the lane where she finishes well and gobbles up offensive rebounds.
Ja’lyn Brown, 2022 Guard, St. Frances Academy
Ms. Brown has transferred from Riverdale Baptist to St. Frances Academy and will have a huge impact in the IAAM as the Panthers try to stay on top. She is a long and athletic , 6’1" versatile point guard that is a match up nightmare.
[player_tooltip player_id="137250" first="Chase" last="Bell"], 2022, Guard, Elizabeth Seton
Chase is new at Elizabeth Seton, having transferred in from Sherwood in Montgomery County for the tougher WCAC competition. Chase is a big guard with a high basketball IQ with a knack for scoring. At 5’9" she has good size and is really dangerous in transition. She is a good passer that usually makes the right decisions. She should jump right into the rotation at Seton.
[player_tooltip player_id="137217" first="Myah" last="Simmons"], 2022, Guard, Roland Park
Myah is ready to take that next step in her junior year. She has played against big time competition in the IAAM for two seasons so she won’t see anything she hasn’t seen before. She is a crafty point guard that can drain threes at a high percentage. Her handle is tight, and she has always been a pass first facilitator with a nice feel for the game. She should thrive for the Reds this season.
