HONORABLE MENTIONS
Katie Decker (2021, CG, Bellaire)
Decker was a critical piece to a championship game appearance for Bellaire. In the first game she had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also added 3 assists. In the finals, Decker had scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Emma Halfmann (2022, SF, Fowler)
Halfmann was solid in the Final 4. The stats don’t do her game justice as she did all the little things to help her team take home a state title. She finished the semis with 11 points and had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal in the title game.
Emma Riley (2023, PG, Fowler)
Riley will be a force for the next 2 years. She stuffed the stat sheet in the round of 4 with 18 points, 8 steals, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Her effort on the defensive end was outstanding. Riley had 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals to help seal the championship. Once again, her defense ruled the day.
Destanee Smith (2023, F, Petersburg-Summerfield)
Destanee Smith, welcome to my prospect board. I was impressed with her all around game in the semis. She finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Jacey Somers (2023, C, Bellaire)
Somers continues to prove that she’s a prospect to keep an eye on. In the semis, she had 10 points and 3 rebounds. In the title game, she finished with 6 point and 5 boards.
Tessa Wagner Tessa Wagner C Carney-Nadeau | 2022 State MI (2022, C, Carney-Nadeau)
Wagner is underrated and she proved it in the semifinals. She scored a dominant 21 points, snagged 8 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Mia Riley Mia Riley PG Fowler | 2022 State MI (2022, PG, Fowler)
’Wow”. That is the single best way to sum up Riley’s Final 4 games, and really, her entire state playoff performance. She was literally unstoppable at times offensively. Scoring wasn’t all that she brought to the table. Riley created for her teammates off the bounce and delivered the ball to them in scoring positions. She was a huge factor defensively as well, effectively pressuring the ball and making it difficult for opponents on the perimeter to get their team into offensive sets. In the semifinals, Riley stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. She followed that up with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the state championship. Riley will be a key prospect to watch over the next year.
