Up next is 4A:
Dominique Valdez Dominique Valdez 5'2" | CG Denver South | 2024 State CO – Kennedy – 23.5 PPG
- The Kennedy Commanders scored 627 points in the 2021 season and Valdez scored 305 of them. Falling away, over girls a foot taller, even tossing the ball backwards over her shoulder, this girl makes shots that most would never try. Inch for inch, the 5’2″ Valdez is as good as anyone in the Denver Prep League. It’s rare to see a freshman drop 35 in a game and Valdez did it twice. The Commanders have a solid core to build around between Valdez and her classmate, Keilani Venegas Alvarez (5’5″, 7.9 PPG).
Taylin Serlen Taylin Serlen 6'1" | PF Standley Lake | 2024 State CO – Standley Lake – 13.4 PPG
- The Gators have a good one in this talented 6’1″ almost old-school, hard nosed, and fearless post presence. Double-doubles are the norm, not the highlight, for Serlen. With the graduation of her lightning and thunder wingman, Cameron Lucas (11.2 PPG, 7.8 RPG), Serlen is going to have to show she’s strong enough to stand up to the challenge of every team’s main focus. From what I’ve seen on the summer camp scene, Serlen is up for that challenge.
Peyton Marvel Peyton Marvel 5'9" | SG D'Evelyn | 2024 State CO – D’Evelyn – 11.8 PPG
- When was the last time you saw someone go for double digit scoring, double digit offensive rebounds, AND double digit defensive rebounds in a game? That feat doesn’t even have a formal name. I’ve seen it called a jumper’s triple double. Marvel hit it with 15 points and exactly 10 offensive and 10 defensive boards in a win over Littleton this year. The 5’8″ slasher proved you don’t need to be 6’0″ to be a game-changing rebounder. Her 13.9 RPG were 4th. IN THE STATE. All classes. All grades. It’s one thing for a freshman to contribute on a down program, but Marvel stood out for a perennial powerhouse at D’Evelyn.
Savannah Pohl Savannah Pohl 6'0" | SF Longmont | 2024 State CO – Longmont – 10.1 PPG
- Good things ahead for a young Trojans lineup that saw 5’10” freshman, Savannah Pohl Savannah Pohl 6'0" | SF Longmont | 2024 State CO , burst onto the scene with double digit scoring. She finished with big momentum scoring 14 or more in four of her last five games. Pohl kept the Trojans close in a great battle against a very good Thompson Valley team, dropping 20 points.
Macy Scheer Macy Scheer 6'0" | SG D'Evelyn | 2024 State CO – D’Evelyn – 9.6 PPG
- With another 2024 quickly rising prospect, D’Evelyn shows no signs of slowing their consistent top-10 status. For teams that value threes and layups, Scheer’s your prospect. She can shoot, drive, and post up. To see her go from an unsure incoming freshman to a poised and confident court leader in just twelve months could make Macy the player on this list with the most potential. As she discovers the avenues by which she can impact a game (5.6 RPG, 2.4 APG, 2.9 SPG, 1.8 BPG), she gets better every day. Her league opponents do not want to face her for three more years.
Penny Urquhart Penny Urquhart 5'10" | SG Littleton | 2024 State CO – Littleton – 9.5 PPG
- Jeffco 4A really is strong in 2024 with four players on this list. Urquhart is already a leader for the Lions. More than just a scorer (2.3 APG), she’s a smart perimeter defender (2.5 SPG) and a tough, physical post defender (5.6 RPG). Yet another Jeffco 4A, 2024 rising prospect is Penny’s 5’10” teammate, Jacy Chandler Jacy Chandler 5'10" | SF Littleton | 2024 State CO .
Krystyna Manzanarez – Grand Junction Central – 9.4 PPG
- What a great season for a pair of Warrior freshmen. In their first season in 4A, Grand Junction Central went 13-4 with huge contributions from Manzanarez and Brynn Wagner (8.0 PPG). Both are most dangerous outside (35% and 40% 3-point shooting, respectively) and helped leading scorer Leah Redding Leah Redding 5'5" | SG Grand Junction Central | 2021 State CO (2021, 5’7″, 13.2 PPG) find space to do damage driving.
Josephine Wilson – Denver North – 9.3 PPG
- As Josephine Wilson goes, so goes Denver North. She tallies ten points or more the final six games; they tally wins in five of those six games. She tallies ten points just once the first six games; they tally losses in every game. The 5’8″ Wilson is clearly an impactful player for North. The Vikings have to be excited about Wilson teaming with a player who was JUST short of this list. Fellow freshman, Solana Diaz Solana Diaz 5'7" | SG Denver North | 2024 State CO (5’9″) averaged 8.4 PPG.
Brynn Price Brynn Price 5'8" | CG Roosevelt | 2024 State CO – Roosevelt – 9.0 PPG
- Price is arriving at Roosevelt at a great time when the program is on the rise and playing at a quick pace. Price has the size (5’9″) to do damage in different ways, scoring 20 points from the outside against Erie and in other games scoring mostly from the inside. She shook off any freshman jitters quickly, shooting like a veteran at 36.4% behind the arc in her final seven games.
Gianna Whiteside Gianna Whiteside 5'11" | PF AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ – George Washington – 8.7 PPG
- Sister? Yes. Little sister? Not so much. Playing with 2021 Long Island University commit, Maya Whiteside Maya Whiteside 6'0" | SF George Washington | 2021 State CO , the 6’0″ younger Whiteside was the tough, physical, final puzzle piece the Patriots needed to jump into the very top ranks in the state. Her trajectory is clearly steep as she hit double digit scoring in seven of her last ten games, including a monster 17 point, 14 rebound bomb to lead her team in both categories when it mattered most for a league championship. Gianna makes the Patriots tough to score on with 7.0 RPG and 1.6 BPG.
