This past week I was out at the Battle of the Best tournament in Des Moines for the first few days for the first evaluation period in the 2021 calendar year. The field was very good with quite a few EYBL programs as well as some of the top independents in the region. Below, I look at Part II of my standouts from the event regardless of class.

I was very impressed with Wedin over the entire week as I caught a few of her games. She’s a very aggressive guard who gets to the rim at a very good clip. She also shot the ball very well with a very repeatable shot. She has good lateral quickness and doesn’t attack only on a straight line. Wedin will be able to gain more strength and become a very solid college contributor in a few years.
[player_tooltip player_id="213690" first="Ashton" last="Judd"] - 6’0 SF - 2022 - West Plains HS (MO) - Assassins 2022
There’s not a lot more that I can say about Judd that I haven’t already said. She’s dominant at times on the floor and at the Battle of the Best it was no different. She’s a very skilled wing who can on the perimeter on on the inside. She’s a prototypical stretch-4 at the next level and coaches were raving about her ability. She’s really strong and aggressive, not to mention she can shoot it well.
[player_tooltip player_id="107959" first="Kennedy" last="Townsend"] - 5’9 G - 2022 - Olathe North HS (KS) - Missouri Phenom EYBL 2022 - Creighton commit
Townsend is a very solid guard who just simply does all of the right things on the floor. She’s a guard who has very good handles with the ability to get up and down the floor in transition. Her passing and vision really stood out to me in Des Moines. It seemed like she was able to make every single pass that she wanted to. Townsend has the ability to pass her teammates open.
[player_tooltip player_id="107960" first="Addison" last="Brownfield"] - 5’9 SG - 2022 - Boonville HS (MO) - Missouri Phenom EYBL 2022
Brownfield displayed a really nice knack for scoring the ball at all three levels at the Battle of the Best. I thought that she did a really nice job of picking her spots when to attack on the bounce as well as when to shoot it from beyond the arc. She showed really good energy on the floor and it seemed like her teammates really fed off of her energy. Brownfield had a really good showing.
[player_tooltip player_id="187636" first="Micah" last="Landry"] - 6’0 F - 2022 - Blue Springs South HS (KS) - Missouri Phenom KC 2022 Potts
Landry quickly caught my attention as she displayed very good athleticism and strength. I thought that she did a really good job on the defensive side of the floor and showed good anticipation when drivers were coming into the lane. She flashed some very good offensive moves with the ball and once the skill fully develops she is going to become really, really good.
