Florida Round Up – Volume 18 By Michael Wholey 8/6/21 12:00 PM EST The July eval period has concluded, we look around the state in volume 18 of the Florida round up to see what has been going on throughout the months of June and July. VERBAL COMMITMENTS 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91589" first="Ajalon" last="Gillard"] (Hoop Dreams Elite / West Orange HS) made her announcement to verbally commit to new head coach Jennifer Sullivan at Florida Atlantic University. The 5’9 guard can light it up and has deep 3-point range well beyond the arc. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91571" first="Katie" last="Ambrose"] (Tampa Thunder / Gulf Coast HS) announced her decision to attend St. Francis (PA) next year. The 5’6 point guard is a savvy, skilled guard who does a good job creating shots for her teammates and can score the ball in the paint and from 3. TOP PERFORMANCES 2024 6’4 [player_tooltip player_id="223866" first="Channing" last="Warren"] (Blue Star Orlando) turned some heads on day two of Elite 32 in Georgia as part of Brandon Clay’s events. She went head-to-head with Arizona Supreme and Dayton commit Kam’Ren Rhodes. At 6’4 Warren is one of the state’s biggest players. She has a very unique combination of height, length, and athleticism and moves exceptionally well for a player her size. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="91590" first="Kamryn" last="Bullock"] (Hoop Dreams Elite) had a big week at Adidas Nationals. She led the talented 2022 Hoop Dreams Elite squad in both scoring and rebounding. She is strong and aggressive. She rebounds the ball exceptionally well pursuing balls far outside her reach and she hustles on every play. 2025 Guard [player_tooltip player_id="243900" first="Kali" last="Barrett"] (FGB) continues to be one of the top young performers of the spring/summer. The young perimeter player is a big-time scorer and has great height and athleticism for a player that has yet to enter high school. Remember the name, Barrett has a chance to be a big-time prospect! She is a very well-rounded offensive player with a ton of tools. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="243924" first="Rhema" last="Collins"] (Miami Suns Team Fowles) was one of the summers break out stars. The 6’1 who originally hails from Bahamas had several big performances for Team Fowles. One of her highlights of the travel season was a buzzer beater, sending Team Fowles into OT vs Tree of Hope. She was one of the newcomers of the spring/summer bursting on the scene for Miami Suns Team Fowles. The 6’1 wing/forward is a big-time athlete with unlimited potential. She was particularly impressive attacking the rim from the wing, using her athleticism and vertical to finish high above the rim. Similar to [player_tooltip player_id="91570" first="Kyla" last="Abraham"], Collins recruitment has exploded picking up offers from Auburn, Southern Miss, FAU, Georgia Tech, Houston, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, St Johns, and West Virginia. Miami Suns Team Kiki 15U EYBL took home the championship at Battle in the Bayou in Louisiana. In the 51-39 win over Austin Elite 2025 Guards Sam Baustia and [player_tooltip player_id="221653" first="Jada" last="Johnson"] were the main attraction. Baustia dropped 17 points while Johnson had 9 points. Both guards did most of their damage from beyond the 3-point line. We will look to continue to cover all across the state of Florida. Our audience supplies us with some of our best information. Keep us updated on Florida news be emailing me at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com or DM’ing me through Twitter or Instagram @WholeyPrepHoops.
